Ecosense Expands First-of-Its-Kind Radon Library Lending Program Across Pennsylvania
Industry Leader Partners with Local Libraries in One of the Nation's Highest-Risk Radon States.Pittsburgh, PA - August 26th, 2025 - Ecosense [https://ecosense.io/], an industry-leading provider of the best home radon detector [https://www.bobvila.com/articles/how-to-test-for-radon/] available on the market, is delighted to announce the success of its groundbreaking Library Lending Program [https://ecosense.io/pages/library-lending-program?srsltid=AfmBOoqbvEKIryRPlsIA50BBv6Ckh0_T0hFw8XIs3JcRmDPY7jVuQxKw] in Pennsylvania, one of the country's top three states for radon occurrence.
The program is now available to public libraries across the state, with six already participating, including Frank Sarris Public Library, Spring Township Library Association, Leechburg Public Library, Armstrong Library-Apollo Memorial Library, Ford City Public Library, and Kittanning Public Library. This initiative allows residents to borrow Ecosense electronic radon detectors just like books, giving families immediate, no-cost access to lifesaving technology that helps reduce their risk of lung cancer. By partnering with community libraries, Ecosense makes radon testing affordable, accessible, and easy for all families-transforming it from a costly barrier into a community resource.
"Given the radiation levels in Pennsylvania, it's essential to prioritize early detection and public awareness," said Insoo Park [https://www.linkedin.com/in/insoo-park-2295951/], Ecosense CEO. "Our collaboration with Pennsylvania libraries ensures that families can take action immediately by receiving not just information, but direct access to the most accurate radon detectors available to safeguard their health."
Radon is an odorless and colorless gas that is so toxic it has become the leading cause of lung cancer deaths in non-smokers, making detection imperative. Pennsylvania's geology and older housing make it one of the highest-risk areas for radon. About 40% of homes tested exceed the EPA's action level of 4 pCi/L, and most counties fall in the highest risk category. Yet testing rates and public awareness remain critically low.
The Ecosense Library Lending Program helps close this gap by letting residents borrow radon detectors and learning materials from their local libraries, just like checking out a book. This simple, accessible approach turns awareness into action, empowering communities to identify and address radon problems before they impact health.
One of the participating libraries in the Pittsburgh area, Frank Sarris Public Library [https://www.franksarrislibrary.org/], received four Ecosense EcoBlu radon detectors. Library Executive Director Peggy Tseng explained that her staff tested the devices first before making them available to the public, and she also decided to test her own home. The results were eye-opening.
"I was shocked to find my home's basement had a high level of radon gas because I had the misconception that only old houses with fully underground basements would have radon gas," stated Tseng. "I live in a newly-built home that is only three years old, and it has a walkout basement with windows and doors. Two weeks after placing the radon detector in my home, I had a certified radon technician install a mitigation system. After the mitigation system was installed, the average radon level in my basement dropped from 4 pCi/L to 1 pCi/L. The technician, who recommended keeping the EcoBlu detector in the basement, said it's a good choice for monitoring radon levels at all times."
Ecosense's Library Lending Program bridges the gap between education and action, providing every community with access to critical testing equipment, regardless of location or income. Libraries interested in joining the program can easily add Ecosense radon detectors to their Technology Lending Programs, supported by special pricing and streamlined onboarding resources from Ecosense.
