The Military Order of the Cootie Elects Marine Corps Veteran Eric Bell as New Supreme Commander
COLUMBUS, Ohio (August 19, 2025) - The Military Order of the Cootie of the United States (MOC), a non-profit veteran's service organization and the "Honor Degree of the VFW," elected Livonia, Michigan native Eric Bell as its new Supreme (National) Commander. Bell was installed on August 16, 2025, during the MOC's Supreme convention following the VFW's National Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
Bell is only the 7th Michigander to serve in this position since inception in 1920. As Supreme Commander, he will lead an organization of approximately 10,000 members dedicated to serving hospitalized veterans. Known for their unique uniforms and a commitment to humor, the Cooties visited more than 431,041 veterans and donated over $19 million in goods and necessities in the past year alone. Their motto, "Keep 'em Smiling in Beds of White," reflects their core mission.
"I am incredibly honored to be elected as the Supreme Commander of the Military Order of the Cootie," Bell said. "This organization has a long and proud history of bringing joy and support to our fellow veterans. We believe that a little laughter and a friendly face can make a world of difference for those recovering in hospitals. My vision is simple; all Cooties are mentors. This is our most critical work, ensuring that every veteran knows their sacrifice is valued and their well-being is our top priority."
Bell's election as Supreme Commander concluded the MOC's 106th Supreme Convention in Columbus, which was held in conjunction with the VFW National Convention.

Meet the Supreme Commander Eric Bell
Commander Bell grew up in Chicago, IL but spent his most formidable years in Port Huron, MI. Attending Port Huron Central and Port Huron Northern high schools, graduating from PH Northern in 1981. He played youth hockey in Chicago and Port Huron as well as one year in high school. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1981 and retired with 20 years active-duty service. He has three grown children living in Port Huron with their families, Ryan, Wayne, and Ashley. He has two younger sisters, Colleen and Jenny that are also living in Port Huron area with their families.
Commander Bell joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in 2006, earning eligibility from combat service in Beirut (1984) and Panama (1989). He held many positions of leadership within his home post (Hubert-Fortiers-O Grady VFW Post 345 in Redford, MI) such as a three-time Post Commander, Building Chairman and currently the Adjutant. He has also held many positions in Department of Michigan District 4 as a Trustee, Cootie Liaison and District Commander.
Commander Bell was invited to join the Military Order of the Cootie (MOC) in 2007 after demonstrating the drive, determination, and passion they were looking for. He rose through the ranks of his Pup Tent (Post level, which is PT-21 Gremlin, also at VFW 345 in Redford, MI), and is currently the Custodian of the Crummy Duffel Bag (CCDB or Quartermaster). He held many leadership positions at the Grand and Supreme level (State and National level respectively), to include two-time Grand Commander, 8th Supreme District Councilmember and Supreme Hospital Commissioner, before being elected as Supreme Commander.
Commander Bell thanks and gives all the credit of his success, to his wife Katherine and youngest son Anton, for their continued, non-wavering support during his VFW and MOC service.
