Animal Vaccine Market Globally Expected to Grow Till 2020

Animals are raised either as companions or with an intention of gaining profit through production and sale of meat, dairy, fertilizers and other by products such as wool, horn, leather which are aptly called commercial or livestock animals. Some of the most common livestock include pigs, sheep, cattle, goat and poultry. In recent times, this commercialization has extended into several other flightless bird species such as ostrich and emu along with some others animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits that are now raised for meat. Livestock and companion animals are susceptible to several infectious diseases depending on the species such as Aujeszky’s disease, Bluetongue, Bovine tuberculosis, Coccidiosis, Johne’s disease, Foot and Mouth Disease and Liver fluke. The diseases such as Schmallenberg Virus and African swine fever are serious threats to livestock. The impact of diseases to both types of animals can be disastrous. Recently, Hong Kong has banned live chicken sales and plans to cull another 20,000 birds at a market to prevent the spread of a mutated form of H1N1 virus that was designated H7N9 avian flu. The 2011 outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in U.K. is estimated to have had cost of more than $5,186 million to U.K. According to the estimates, the 2003 outbreak of avian influenza and 1998-1998 outbreak of classical swine, both in Netherlands, cost $612 million and $2,520 million respectively.
