Local News from the Bucks County Courier Times, The Intelligencer and Burlington County Times Now Available on Amazon’s Alexa Flash Briefing
Calkins Media’s three Delaware Valley news organizations among the first community newspapers to join the make news briefs available via the Amazon platform.
LEVITTOWN, PA (January 16, 2017)—Users of the Amazon Echo now only need to say “Alexa, what’s my Flash Briefing” or “Alexa, what’s in the news” to hear daily top headlines selected especially for them by the editors of three local, daily newspapers.
Skills (similar to apps) for the Bucks County Courier Times (Levittown, Pa.), The Intelligencer (Doylestown, Pa.) and the Burlington County Times (Willingboro, N.J.) were approved last week for addition to Amazon Alexa’s Flash Briefing options.
Alexa is an intelligent personal assistant very similar to Apple’s Siri. It is the voice controller of Amazon’s Echo and Echo Dot, along with other Alexa-enabled products and devices. Alexa listens for a user’s voice command as an activation of the Echo speaker system.
“Having the connection with Alexa is another great way for area residents to get their news. Our news organizations already have locally-produced digital TV programming on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku and Xfinity, and this is just one more way for people to find and engage with our content.” said Jake Volcsko, digital media and marketing director for the Bucks County Courier Times, The Intelligencer and the Burlington County Times.
To add the local news reports to your Amazon Alexa-enabled device:
1. Go to Settings inside your Alexa app and choose "Flash Briefing."
2. Click "Get more Flash Briefing content."
3. On the next screen, search for "Bucks County Courier Times," “The Intelligencer” or “Burlington County Times.”
4. Click the link for that newspaper’s Daily Flash Brief, and then "Enable Skill” on the right hand side.
1. Go to Skills in your Alexa app.
2. Search "Bucks County Courier Times," “The Intelligencer” or “Burlington County Times.”
3. Click the link for that newspaper’s Daily Flash Brief, and then "Enable Skill” on the right hand side.
Every day the editors of each newspaper will select local stories and present summaries via Flash Briefings. With the largest staff of local news reporters in the suburbs of Bucks, Montgomery and Burlington counties working to provide award-winning and informative reporting, the daily briefings will provide a quick summary of what you need to know.
