Lana Nathe, Founder and Principal Designer at Light Insight Design Studio Inc. in Boston, faced a unique lighting challenge at the Harvard Alumni Club. Tasked with illuminating a nine-foot painting, she initially considered ceiling-mounted or direct wall-mounted lighting solutions. However, architectural limitations made both options unfeasible. The only available resource was an existing wall outlet box equipped with a standard switch-right where innovation had to begin.
"Light reveals shape, surface and color, it informs our individual perception and provides us a common language of light- art thrives on this to be seen in its truest form. Great lighting should integrate - and not distract with hot spots & scallops," said Lana Nathe.
Lana Nathe specifically partnered with The Lighting Quotient to develop this custom lighting solution, drawn by the company's reputation for delivering exceptional uniform wall-wash performance. Unlike conventional art lights that offer a standard 180-degree distribution - often illuminating only the top portion of a piece - The Lighting Quotient's artZi fixture ensures even, full-surface illumination that brings out the true color and texture of the artwork. artZi seamlessly blends form and function, offering energy efficiency, easy installation, and a lockable aiming mechanism for precise light placement-making it an ideal choice for galleries, museums, and high-end residential or commercial environments.
"We saw a need to replace current art lighting that cause glare, hotspots, and uneven illumination to meet the unique demands of illuminating art. artZi empowers designers and curators, by adding light to art in a way that allows the viewer an unmatched visual experience," said Allie Schieffelin, CEO, at The Lighting Quotient.
