When every move has to be perfect, you need adhesive solutions that combine process reliability and speed. In special vehicle construction, where vehicles are made to measure, seconds often decide on efficiency, quality and cost-effectiveness. Short cycle times, a wide range of variants and complex material combinations place high demands on the production process. Compliance with legal standards is another aspect that plays an important role, particularly in the case of safety-relevant vehicles such as fire engines, police cars, rescue vehicles, rail vehicles, utility vehicles, military vehicles and expedition vehicles, as these are subject to strict quality and testing requirements. RUDERER KLEBETECHNIK GmbH offers a wide range of high-performance adhesives specifically for special vehicle construction, which not only speed up production processes, but also make them safer and more efficient in the long term. Two special adhesives have proved particularly successful in special vehicle construction: KÖRAPOP 240 and KÖRAPOP 225. These modern high-performance adhesives come from the KÖRAPOP series from the long-established company Kömmerling, which has been part of the global H.B. Fuller Group since 2017. They are perfect for elastic bonding and sealing of covers, floor panels, interior and exterior cladding and roof structures. As the adhesives meet the high requirements of special vehicle construction in terms of load-bearing capacity, strength, impermeability, vibration tolerance, temperature and moisture resistance, users benefit from maximum planning and design freedom combined with high process reliability. The high-performance adhesive SIKAFLEX®-268 PowerCure from the Swiss adhesive manufacturer SIKA is also used successfully in special vehicle construction. SIKAFLEX®-268 PowerCure was developed with a booster system so that the adhesive cures much faster than conventional adhesives, regardless of the ambient conditions. Find out below in which areas this innovative adhesive is used and why adhesives such as SIKAFLEX® and KÖRAPOP have become indispensable in modern special vehicle production.

The construction of special vehicles is significantly more complex than that of series vehicles. While classic series vehicle construction focuses on repeatability and efficiency, special vehicle construction is all about individuality and functional diversity. The technical and design requirements are individually tailored to the customer and the respective operating conditions. Compliance with legal standards is another aspect that must be taken into account, particularly in the manufacture of fire, police, rescue, rail, utility or military vehicles, as these vehicles are subject to strict quality and testing requirements.

More design freedom

As materials such as metals, plastics, composites and lightweight components are often combined in special vehicle construction, adhesive bonding technology is often the only practicable way of joining different materials together effectively and reliably. Modern adhesive systems enable controlled application and open up completely new design freedom for users. RUDERER KLEBETECHNIK GmbH offers a wide range of high-performance adhesives specifically for special vehicle construction, which are used in the manufacture of fire engines, police and rescue vehicles, agricultural vehicles, vending trucks, food trucks, trailers, rail vehicles and much more. In practice, the one-component adhesives and sealants KÖRAPOP 240 and KÖRAPOP 225 from H.B. Fuller and SIKAFLEX®-268 PowerCure from SIKA have shown consistently good results.

KÖRAPOP 240: Dynamic. High strength. Reliable.

The permanently elastic high-performance adhesives KÖRAPOP 240 and KÖRAPOP 225 guarantee every user process reliability and processing stability. The adhesives are ideal for overhead work as they can be applied precisely and therefore require no reworking. KÖRAPOP 240 has a skin formation time of ten minutes and hardens to around two to three millimeters within 24 hours. The adhesive is particularly suitable for larger, dynamically stressed bonded surfaces and bonded surfaces with complex geometries. KÖRAPOP 240 has proven its worth when bonding exterior cladding, side walls, roofs and floor panels as well as when bonding spoilers, trims and handle strips. KÖRAPOP 240 is also a good choice for sealing windows and doors, for direct glazing or for vibration-damping bonding.

For even faster curing, KÖRAPOP 240 can be used as a 2-component version with a reaction accelerator (booster). This means that curing is independent of the ambient humidity. Boosters such as KÖRACUR 310 N, 310 L and 310 SL are suitable for a mixing ratio of 10:1, while the booster KÖRACUR 350 can be used for a mixing ratio of 50:1. While curing without a booster often takes several hours to days, reliable curing with a booster takes just 10 to 30 minutes. KÖRAPOP 240 is certified in accordance with the European standard EN 45545-2:2020, which means it meets the requirements for fire behavior in rail vehicles.

KÖRAPOP 225: the high-tech adhesive for expedition vehicles

With a skin forming time of 25 minutes, KÖRAPOP 225 offers more leeway for any alignments and corrections. At three millimetres per 24 hours, the curing speed of KÖRAPOP 225 is similar to that of KÖRAPOP 240. A typical area of application for KÖRAPOP 225 is the bonding of box bodies on expedition vehicles, side panels in vehicles, box trailers and the bonding of seals around light and equipment flaps.

SIKAFLEX® 268 PowerCure: the power booster for outdoor use

The reactive one-component polyurethane adhesive SIKAFLEX®-268 PowerCure with booster system has proven its worth when bonding window panes and glazing, doors, cladding, façade elements and exterior joints that are exposed to high mechanical and climatic conditions. The innovative PowerCure technology enables fast curing. Due to its very good impact and peel strength, SIKAFLEX®-268 PowerCure is a reliable solution for durable and heavy-duty joints in outdoor areas. This high-performance adhesive has been tested in accordance with the European standard EN 45545-2, which means that it meets the requirements of risk classes R1 and R7 as well as reaction to fire class HL3. All bonding work on safety-relevant vehicles is subject to strict quality and testing requirements. Not only trained personnel, but above all the right adhesives for the specific application are therefore essential. RUDERER's adhesive experts therefore not only offer high-performance adhesives with excellent adhesive strength, but also first-class customer service. On request, the company can accompany special vehicle manufacturers through the entire bonding process, including test bonding and ageing tests.
