The brutal assault of Juliana Garcia, caught on surveillance cameras in Natal, Brazil, highlights the collapse of moral, social, and legal restraints - and confirms the theoretical framework developed by Brazilian criminal law expert Dr. José Maria da Silva Filho.

Brazil - August 2025
The video that stunned Brazil showing personal trainer Igor Cabral punching his girlfriend 61 times inside an elevator - has sparked renewed discussion on femicide and drawn attention to a rising criminological model known as the Triple Theory of Delinquency, authored by Brazilian legal scholar Dr. José Maria da Silva Filho, also known as Dr. Zéma.

According to the theory, such crimes occur only when three essential safeguards break down simultaneously: internal morality, which governs self-restraint; social shame, which deters behavior through social disapproval; and fear of punishment, which should be enforced by the justice system.

"Delinquency is not born out of mere opportunity it arises from a lack of boundaries. When a man loses his moral compass, feels no shame, and doesn't fear legal consequences, crime becomes psychologically and emotionally viable," explains Dr. Zema.

The Cabral case clearly illustrates this "triple collapse." In addition to the extreme physical violence, the investigation revealed a history of psychological abuse and emotional manipulation patterns commonly present in femicide dynamics.

For Dr. Zéma, the country's challenge goes far beyond punishment: it lies in prevention. "We must restore moral awareness, reignite social shame as a behavioral regulator, and ensure that legal consequences are certain and swift. Without that, we will continue to witness - helplessly - the recurrence of predictable tragedies," he concludes.
