Centrifuge screens are one of the core components of a centrifuge. They directly determine the separation efficiency, processing capacity, and final product quality of the centrifuge.

1. Core Functions of Centrifuge Screens

*Filter Media: In a filter centrifuge, a screen serves as the filter medium. The screen is placed on the inner wall of the bowl. Under the action of centrifugal force, solid particles in the suspension are trapped on the screen surface, forming a filter cake, while the liquid (filtrate) passes through the pores in the screen and is ejected.

* Cake Support: During the separation process, the screen provides physical support for the continuously forming filter cake.

* Discharge Guidance: In a ​​Flow Guide or gravity discharge centrifuge, the inner surface shape of the screen (such as the cone angle) guides the filter cake for smooth discharge.

* Filtration Fineness Control: The pore size of the screen is one of the most critical factors in controlling separation fineness (i.e., the minimum particle size retained).

2.Types of Centrifuge Screens

The manufacturing method of the screen affects its strength, porosity, and resistance to clogging.

*Woven Mesh: Made by weaving metal or non-metal wires (plain weave, twill weave, Dutch weave, etc.).
Features higher open area ratio and good flexibility, but has relatively lower strength and is prone to deformation.

* Perforated Sheet:** Punched with regularly arranged holes (round, square, slits, etc.) in a thin metal sheet.
It has high strength, good rigidity, is not easily deformed, and has a precise hole pattern.
However, the porosity is relatively low, and material may accumulate at the edges of the holes.

* Wedge wire screen:** Made by welding or assembling support rods and surface wire. It has a high porosity, good strength, and is not prone to clogging ("self-cleaning" effect), making it particularly suitable for fibrous or easily clogging materials. It is one of the most commonly used types of screen in industrial centrifuges (especially decanter and vertical ​​Flow Guide centrifuges).

* Composite Screen:** For example, a metal support mesh is covered with a fine woven mesh or filter cloth, combining the advantages of both.
