ÖDP wants to abolish cruel treatment of animals for slaughter with petition and hopes for 30,000 supporters.

(Würzburg) - Animal welfare in practice: The _Ökologisch-Demokratische Partei (ÖDP - Die Naturschutzpartei)_ is initiating a petition to the German Bundestag to finally put an end to animal cruelty in German slaughterhouses. It wants to use video surveillance to prevent cattle or pigs from being exposed to unnecessary stress or violence and injuries during the last few meters of their lives. This was decided by the federal executive committee of the _ÖDP_ after discussing the ruling at its most recent meeting.

The Ökopartei is thus drawing the consequences of recent court rulings against animal welfare activists, some of which were scandalous for animal lovers. They were convicted because they secretly filmed the suffering in slaughterhouses in order to draw public attention to abuses in the plants. In the opinion of the _ÖDP_, these proceedings show that "animals have too little protection and profit maximization has priority". Helmut Kauer and Prof. Dr. Herbert Einsiedler from the party's federal executive board explain the new _ÖDP_ animal welfare initiative so clearly: "We are collecting signatures to close the gaps in animal welfare that have been uncovered by demanding video surveillance for all slaughterhouses. This should guarantee more careful treatment of the animals if veterinarians check the recordings randomly and make illegal actions by animal rights activists unnecessary." Our appeal is directed at the members of the Bundestag to finally put an end to this cruelty. The current regulations are clearly not sufficient to ensure that animals are treated without suffering, the ÖDP explains the petition

The Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP) was founded in 1982 as a federal party. The ÖDP has around 7,000 members nationwide. It is represented in local parliaments across Germany with over 520 elected representatives. Since the 2014 European elections, the ÖDP has permanently held one seat in the European Parliament.

In accordance with its principles, the ÖDP advocates respect for life and a careful approach to it - for the protection of natural resources, sustainability, global responsibility and prosperity without growth mania.

The overriding principle of our political action is that we think not only of ourselves, but also in solidarity with all people on this planet and future generations.

Furthermore, we are aware that we are embedded in the animate and inanimate nature around us and have a responsibility for it.

The political program of the ÖDP is derived from this ethical principle. We examine all our demands and actions on the basis of this aspect. Every statement and demand of the ÖDP, including those outside of this basic program, should be derived from this "Golden Rule".

Rome's "Ecological Sundays," which restrict traffic to reduce pollution, may at a first glance appear to be an environmental initiative on the surface, but they serve a deeper agenda-to condition the public to the idea of staying home and resting on Sundays. While rest is not inherently problematic, the issue lies in how this concept is being enforced-not through a voluntary means, but through civil law. By mandating Sunday rest
