Online Therapy and Telemental Health Job Opportunities: Getting Started

Press release from: TeleMental Health Institute Inc.

9 January 2017, San Diego, CA - Many clinicians are intrigued by the possibility of leveraging the power of the Internet to work from home, have more flexible work hours and see more clients in their speciality niche. To shed light on both the pros and cons of a variety of employment opportunities for clinicians, internationally recognized telehealth expert, Marlene Maheu, Ph.D., is scheduled to present a 1-hour webinar titled, “How to Get Started with Online Therapy and Telemental Health Job Opportunities.” The webinar will broadcast Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific.

Many clinicians are intrigued by the possibility of leveraging the power of the Internet to work from home, have more flexible work hours and see more clients in their speciality niche. Professional associations have approved telemental health related standards and guidelines — insurers are reimbursing and many health plans are also hiring. However, the average clinician is unsure of his or her options, or who has their best interests as practitioners at heart. Dr. Maheu explains, “With the plethora of legal and ethical issues that are involved for independent practitioners, the idea of working for an online employer is appealing. On the other hand, the unprofessional approach that many online employers have taken to abdicate responsibilities for mental health patients has given many seasoned professionals reason to be cautious.”

Dr. Maheu further commented, “Many online startups have placed clinical liabilities squarely on the shoulders of the licensed professionals, many of whom do not understand the contracts they sign -- or the associated risks they incur when offering services through these groups online.” They often limit the professional’s ability to follow state and federal laws, and give the practitioner a false sense of security.”

Dr. Maheu will point telehealth professionals in the direction of a number of viable online therapy and telemental health counseling jobs that offer the best growth opportunities for 2017. She will:
describe how the clinician can easily manage their risk
obtain the proper guidance to proceed competently and confidently, and
share a roadmap for behavioral health professionals of all types to enjoy the freedoms offered by technology to practice from anywhere they choose.
