Melissa, 31, arose from a family of entrepreneurs, which she credited for helping her along her path.
"Entrepreneurship definitely runs in my family," she said. "My great grandmother was actually one of the first female CPAs in Carmel, California, which is where I mostly grew up. She also owned real estate, ran a wood shop, and broke a lot of the norms for her time. She's always very inspiring to me. My dad flipped homes throughout my childhood. And my mom, she created her own board games. So, growing up, it was very normal for me to see people turning ideas and dreams into something tangible, into income."
Melissa added that modeling was a springboard for her career.
"Before I got into e-commerce, I did some modeling in my early twenties," she said. "I started building my Instagram following, which now has grown to more than 240,000 followers. I collaborated with brands, and I gained experience with online marketing."

A Successful Career as an e-Commerce Store Operator Began a Decade Ago

"Around late 2015, I stumbled across someone who was selling on Amazon," Melissa said. "Back then, the industry was still in its infancy. I was really curious because this person was making real money by selling general products.
"I was studying psychology in college at the time. But I dove into the Amazon selling. I signed up for coaching, took some courses, and I learned a lot through trial and error. Within a few months, my first Amazon store was grossing $10,000 a month. Now, that's gross revenue, not profit. But still, with that number on my screen at that time, it was more than I had ever seen in my life in a month. So, it gave me the confidence to move myself forward. I actually ended up dropping out of college to go all in on entrepreneurship. Eventually, I started coaching others. I ran group sessions and then launched a full course where people could go at their own pace and that had over 400 students enroll.
"From there, I realized many people needed more hands-on help. So, I launched Elite Automation, my current company, in 2020. We were one of the first companies to offer a full-blown Amazon store buildout and management service. We always like to say 99% done for you. Today we handle everything for the clients, from the product research, inventory sourcing, warehousing, listings, customer service, and everything. That's been pretty much my path since my early twenties, or just about a decade ago."
