New publication: "CMD - The forgotten problem of modern medicine" - A book about an underestimated condition

Oldenburg, July 2025 - Millions of people suffer from tension headaches, tinnitus, neck tension, dizziness or teeth grinding - often for years. The cause often remains undiscovered: craniomandibular dysfunction, or CMD for short. With his new book "CMD - The forgotten problem of modern medicine", author and publisher Markus Schall presents a work that is both comprehensible and in-depth, offering new perspectives to those affected.

CMD - or TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder) - is not a rare disease, but a complex interplay of muscular, nervous and psychological factors, which is nevertheless often neglected by conventional medicine. In this book, the author, himself an experienced software developer with a long-standing interest in self-regulation and system dynamics, not only sheds light on the physical aspects of CMD, but deliberately goes one step further: he shows how new technologies such as artificial intelligence or certain biochemical impulses can help to reduce one's own stress levels and think more clearly again.

CMD causes extensive complaints over the years

The variety of symptoms associated with CMD is enormous - and this is precisely what often makes diagnosis so difficult. Many sufferers suffer from diffuse symptoms that seem to have nothing to do with each other: Tension headaches, facial pain, neck tension, back pain, dizziness, jaw clicking, jaw joint pain, teeth grinding (bruxism) and tinnitus are among the most common symptoms.

However, concentration problems, chronic fatigue, a feeling of inner restlessness or even difficulty swallowing and visual disturbances can also be part of the symptoms. In many cases, there is also a general overload of stress because the interaction between the jaw muscles, nervous system and vegetative regulation is out of balance. It is not uncommon for those affected to end up at various specialists - from ENT to orthopaedics to psychosomatics - without a clear cause being found. This is exactly where this book comes in: It brings structure to the symptom landscape and shows why seemingly separate complaints often have a common foundation - and what can be done about them.

Artificial intelligence as a tool for self-reflection

The chapter "AI as a tool for CMD" is particularly innovative. In it, Schall describes how modern AI systems - such as chatbots or personalized reflection aids - can help those affected to recognize their own patterns and take countermeasures at an early stage. AI is not presented as a substitute for medical help, but as a complementary tool for self-observation: "Once you become aware of your patterns, many CMD symptoms can be reduced in a targeted manner - often through simple changes in everyday life," says the author.
