Chance Meetings and Distant Lives begins when Stephanie, on a rainy afternoon, unexpectedly runs into her old school friend Secundus ("Secco") Frome. Their connection is quickly rekindled, but their reunion is shaken by a tragic bus crash that leaves many dead. Secco and Stephanie survive and are taken in by a kind couple who help them through the chaos. Drawn together by fate, they reconnect at a party and finally act on their long-held feelings.
But things quickly take a darker turn. Secco ends up in hospital after a car crash and forms bonds with his carers. Stephanie faces a terrifying ordeal involving a stalker, prison time, and a deep criminal conspiracy. Together, the pair flee across Europe-from safe houses in Congresbury to coastal France, from Italy to Morocco-meeting a cast of vivid characters and facing one challenge after another. As the story unfolds, themes of freedom, loyalty, and second chances emerge, all leading to a dramatic and ambiguous finale.
Jeanes explained his inspiration for the book: " I wanted to explore how people's paths cross in unexpected ways, and how those chance moments can shape lives forever-especially later in life when we think all the big events are behind us ."
This is a gripping, continent-crossing adventure written by Dave Jeanes of Bridport in Dorset. It is his eighth novel, adding to a creative portfolio that also includes plays, pantomimes, and hundreds of original songs.
