CIS Control in Sophos Central: Tool enables cybersecurity assessment

CIS Control in Sophos Central: Tool enables cybersecurity assessment

The assessment tool in Sophos Central now also supports the latest CIS Controls v8.1, adding another internationally recognized standard for assessing cybersecurity maturity to the functionality of Sophos's self-assessment platform. This provides organizations with a practical tool to evaluate and prioritize protection measures in a structured manner and align them with established frameworks such as CIS, NIST or NIS-2.
CIS Controls v8.1: Internationally recognized security framework
The CIS Controls (Center for Internet Security) are a catalog of 18 prioritized measures that are specifically designed to improve cyber resilience. Version 8.1 includes an extended mapping system to standards such as ISO/IEC 27001, PCI-DSS and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Companies, public authorities and KRITIS-related organizations use CIS Controls to systematically implement technical and organizational protective measures - from taking stock to responding to security incidents.
Assessment according to implementation groups
The CIS Assessment is directly embedded in Sophos Central and supports categorization according to three Implementation Groups (IGs):

IG1: For smaller organizations with limited resources
IG2: For teams with higher complexity and compliance requirements
IG3: For organizations with increased protection requirements and sensitive data

Users receive a guided assessment of all relevant measures based on specific safeguards or control areas - supplemented by information on security functions and affected IT assets. The results can be exported as a report, used for audits or for internal maturity level analysis.
More orientation for IT and security teams
With the integration of CIS Controls v8.1, the Sophos Assessment Tool gains further practical relevance. The most important benefits include:

Enhanced comparability with NIST and NIS-2 frameworks
Structured risk assessment along the areas of inventory, access control, monitoring and much more
Documented results to prepare for audits and certifications
Visualized dashboards for quick classification of implementation gaps

Consistent further development of the security platform
The extended assessment approach positions Sophos Central even more clearly as a strategic tool for cyber security assessments. The integration of CIS Controls v8.1 enables IT managers to efficiently analyze and optimize their infrastructure - based on recognized international standards.
