Survey Finds Nearly Half of Americans Say Moving Home Is More Stressful Than Divorce
A new nationwide survey reveals the emotional and financial toll of relocating, with some Americans preferring to stay in a bad home rather than move again.
Moving home is often considered a fresh start, but for many Americans, it's a source of extreme stress. According to a new nationally representative survey of 200 U.S. adults, 46% say moving is more stressful than getting divorced, with nearly 4 in 10 admitting they've cried during the process.
The study, commissioned by storage experts Pink Storage, uncovers the hidden emotional weight of moving house - and the surprising lengths people will go to avoid doing it again.
Key findings from the survey include:

More Stressful Than Divorce: 46% of Americans say moving home is more stressful than getting divorced.

Tears on Moving Day: 39% admit they've cried during a move.

Stuck in a Bad Home: 28% would rather stay in a home they dislike than go through the stress of relocating.

Biggest Regret: 1 in 3 regret not hiring professional movers.

Relationship Fallout: 27% reported having a major argument with someone during their last move.

Moving Debt: 22% went into debt to fund their relocation.

Dodging Duties: 31% have lied to avoid helping someone else move.

Call the Ex?: 26% would rather ask their ex for help than deal with their in-laws during a move.

Still Unsettled: 1 in 4 say they still don't feel at home in their new property.

Back-Breaking Work: 45% say lifting heavy furniture is the one task they'd never do again.
The survey also explored what people regret most, how long it takes to feel settled, and even who they'd least want helping them move with "total stranger" surprisingly ranking above family members for many.
