North Phoenix Campus

North Phoenix Campus

PHOENIX, AZ - June 7, 2025 - Autism Academy for Education and Development (AAED), Arizona's leading private school for students on the autism spectrum, is proud to announce the opening of its newest campus in North Phoenix (https://aaed.org/north-phoenix-campus/). Set to launch for the 2025-2026 academic year, the new location at 16454 N. 28th Ave. marks a significant expansion and relocation of AAED's current Peoria campus.

The North Phoenix facility spans 26,625 square feet with two acres of open space. The new campus features 13 classrooms, an auditorium, a gym, outdoor play areas, and more, to accommodate students from kindergarten through 12th grade and up to age 22.

The "Autism Academy was created to give students on the spectrum the best education possible," said Shannon Mitchell, Executive Director at AAED. "Our mission is to assist them in growing academically, socially, and behaviorally so they can be the best version of themselves."

Responding to a Growing Need

With rising demand for educational environments tailored to the needs of students with autism, AAED continues to grow strategically across Arizona. Unlike traditional schools, AAED's curriculum is specifically designed for children on the autism spectrum. Each classroom is structured by age and developmental level, allowing for highly personalized learning experiences.

"We meet students where they're at academically, behaviorally, and socially," Mitchell explained. The school's programming includes not just academic instruction, but also life skills training, vocational development, job programs, physical education, and creative expression, all of which are aligned with the student's stage of development and future goals.

The new North Phoenix campus joins AAED's existing schools in Tempe, Gilbert, Glendale, and Tucson, and supports the organization's ongoing statewide expansion. Plans are already underway to explore new campuses in Queen Creek and Maricopa.

Making Quality Education Accessible

Through Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program, many families of children with autism can attend AAED with little to no out-of-pocket cost.

"It's really important for families to know that they can have a great school experience for their kid," said Mitchell.

To support this opportunity, the school provides dedicated enrollment coordinators who walk parents through the application process, assist with required documentation, and schedule campus tours to ensure each placement is the right fit for the student.

Families interested in learning more about the ESA program or enrolling for the 2025-2026 (https://aaed.org/enrollment/) school year are encouraged to contact AAED (https://aaed.org/contact/) and schedule a personalized tour.
