Small solid wood kitchen brings great cooking pleasure

Even small kitchens are transformed into cozy oases for cooking and living together after the furniture makers' conversion, especially thanks to the cooking island with seating. The kitchen is only 344 by 290 cm in size and is missing half a square meter of installation shaft. And yet the customers Barbara and Norbert, together with the kitchen specialist and certified nutrition expert herwig Danzer, have developed a solution in which even after cooking and eating, the guests don't want to move into the living room.

The cooking peninsula is only 180 cm long, but four people can squeeze onto the cozy bench if necessary, especially when the host is preparing delicacies on the Tepan Yaki. Tepan is the name of the stainless steel hob on which you fry directly without a pan and which almost all customers have opted for since the year 2000 at the latest. For the photo shoot, Norbert deliciously fried pimientos de padron - also known as roast peppers - on it and celebrated the new kitchen with a glass of sparkling wine. Although the photographer was constantly nagging us with new instructions, there was an intimate atmosphere of conversation with Florentine, who talked about her student internship with the furniture makers, and Barbara and Norbert, who is a long-suffering visitor to Wacken concerts and an experienced hiker on the Way of St. James.

All of this in a cozy terraced house, in which an L-shaped kitchen and island with a ceramic worktop and sink on the window side and a refrigerator and tall oven cabinet on the inside were chosen. An extremely rare and particularly grained beech heartwood adorns the front, the wall unit's stainless steel surface prevents the wood collapse feared by the customers and the Flybox as a corner unit (affectionately named "ghost train" by Norbert) also makes use of the last corners of the small kitchen. The company was founded in 1988 in Hersbruck near Nuremberg as a holistically oriented furniture manufacturer. In 1997, the newly founded Die Möbelmacher GmbH, which now has around 15 employees, moved into the new ecological building in Unterkrumbach, where furniture and kitchens are custom-made from solid wood from the region.
The range is complemented by the complete furnishing of kitchens, living and working environments, from lighting and upholstered furniture to curtains and even hi-fi systems made from local wood. They have been awarded the Sustainability Prize of the City of Nuremberg, named Bavaria's environmental ambassador, won the Thalhofer Prize and, since the 2005 Craftsmanship Prize, they have been one of the seven best German craft businesses. In 2010, they won the German Local Sustainability Award. In 2021 and 2022, they were nominated for the Lammsbräu Sustainability Award and the German Sustainability Award "Local Hero", also in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, they won the IGR's Ergonomics Innovation Award, and in 2024, their workshop was named the most beautiful in Germany by the jury of the trade magazine DDS. On November 28, 2024, they won the German Sustainability Award 2025 in the furniture and furnishings category.
