Voice Actor Offers Inspiring Podcasts to African American Entrepreneurs

Voice talent Aishah Jeffries-El is using the Internet to follow a longtime dream of hosting her own radio show. The shows - also called podcasts - can be downloaded from her web site.

The growing list of African American entrepreneurs who hear her niche podcasts are better for it. And so are voice actors who might follow Aishah’s example to create a similar path to income with podcasts.

Aishah's story is told in a new article on VoiceOverXtra.com (www.VoiceOverXtra.com) - the voice-over industry's online news and resource center. The article is located in the web site's Voice Acting/People section.

In early 2007, Aishah created "9 to 5 Daze" (www.9to5daze.com), a web site hosting her show dedicated to helping black entrepreneurs follow their business dreams.

Her podcasts have two goals:

“One, to encourage African Americans to start their own businesses,” Aishah explains, “and two, to encourage African Americans to support other black-owned businesses.

“The guests on the show are entrepreneurs who share their personal journeys on becoming business owners,” she adds.

Interview guests purposely come from a variety of fields, Aishah says, “and sometimes people find me and want to be interviewed, too.”

There’s even a voice-over connection: she recently interviewed Rodney Saulsberry, a leading voice actor, author and trainer known for movie trailers, TV promos and commercials.

The result is an informative 13-minute chat in which Saulsberry recalls how he entered voice-overs from an acting career, made a demo, obtained agents, and immediately got voice work. And he describes how the voice-over field works today.

And what’s Aishah's advice to other voice talent – many of whom have the home studio equipment and skills to create their own niche podcasts?

With no hesitation, the entrepreneur says, “Keep going. Be determined and stick with it, even when it seems like nothing is happening.”
