Vespa meeting XXL at SIP Scootershop in Landsberg am Lech

More than 3500 Vespa enthusiasts were at the SIP Open Day 2025 in Landsberg am Lech (© SIP Scootershop )
It was supposed to start at 10.00 a.m., but the first guests arrived well ahead of time. And those who didn't arrive until around midday had to park their two or four-wheelers some distance away. Scooters of all makes, colors and vintages came from all directions and from all over the world. Vespisti had made the journey from every federal state in Germany. Like Frank from "Schwaben Roller", for example, who started with his Vespa Sprint Veloce and a few mates in Göppingen, Baden-Württemberg - and three and a half hours later was able to enjoy the first cold drink at our bar: "Top weather, top event and top organization. We're not going back today, we're staying at the hotel." A good idea, and he was not alone. Many visitors used Thursday, including the bridge day, to visit the Vespa Corso in Munich or to go on other excursions in picturesque Upper Bavaria. The streets of Landsberg and the surrounding villages were firmly in Vespa hands for a few days.
Latvia, UK, Belarus, Turkey, Croatia, Israel and Japan
The routes of our friends and customers from Europe, who had not traveled by two-wheeler, were much further: Matic & Alen Lovrec (www.cilinder.si/Slovenia), Nenad Ilic & Sasha (MS Trgovina/Croatia), Finn Canton (Canton Automotive/Netherlands), Antonio Arzente (Arzente Motori/Spain), Cesare Costantino (C&C di Cesare Costantino/Italy), Gizem Elsek (Yender Otomotiv/Turkey), Saimon Polini & family (Italy), Iggy Grainger & Lindsay (Scooter Lab UK), Louis Miguell Sanchez & Team (Estoica Motors/Spain), Erich Oberpertinger (Egig Performance/Italy), Nico Pendl (Austria), Micky & Lorenzo & Filo (Rimini Lambretta/Italy), Fabrizio "Cao" Caoduro (70s Helmets/Italy) and Christiaan Foppen (NISA/Italy). Yael Katanov and her husband had made the long journey from Israel to Landsberg, for the fifth time! Ingemars Bileskans (Vespa Garazha) came from Riga in Latvia, Kalev Rutsman traveled from Minsk in Belarus despite all the visa problems. But Ryo Tsuchiyama from _Weller Magazine_ in Japan had the longest journey. 敬意! We were also delighted to welcome many other guests from Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc.
"What SIP Scootershop has built up for the community in Germany in recent years is unique. I've been attending the Open Day for many years now, and it's incredible how this event has grown while remaining informal," said Christian "Tüte" Laufkötter from the _Vespa Club von Deutschland_, summing up his impressions. And Bertl from the _Vespa Cowboys Munich_ echoed his sentiments: "The people are all in a great mood, the atmosphere is outstanding - the Open Day is simply a great story."
"We'll be back for SIP Open Day 2026!"
Mareike and Marcus from _Spirit of 84 Scooterists_, on the other hand, were at the Open Day for the first time, where they took the opportunity to promote their new event _MadMoselle Scootacular_, which will replace _Scooterist Meltdown_ in early 2026. They were unanimously extremely positively surprised. Marcus said: "We have to admit that we are thrilled. It was really full, an incredible number of people - including from our home state of NRW - and the interest in our event is huge. We'll soon be sold out." Mareike summarized: "Above all, I met a lot of new people here that I didn't even know yet. I can only say one thing - we'll definitely be back."
And while the Vespisti visited the exhibitors, ate delicious pizza and hot sausages and enjoyed a cool drink, the children could jump, do handicrafts or even operate a real excavator from the company Dobler from Kaufbeuren. There were scooters to admire as far as the eye could see - from rare one-offs to detailed custom conversions and brand new models. The variety was impressive and reflected the lively scene that came together here.
Showdown on the SIP dynamometer
The queue at our calibrated Amerschläger P4 dyno was as long as the customs clearance line at the burner. But at around 2 p.m., the top dogs arrived. Every year, over 100 scooters have their performance measured on the SIP chassis dynamometer. It's not unusual to see some of the most powerful Vespa and Lambretta engines in the world. This year, we were lucky enough to have what were probably the four most powerful scooters in the world on site at the same time - a perfect opportunity to organize a little "shootout". The motto was: "The hunt for the magical 100 hp limit".
The four opponents were: Local hero and SIP employee Jesco, the two-cylinder Lambretta from Rimini Lambretta, Nico Pendl from Austria and Egig from South Tyrol.
95 hp with the Egig Vespa
While the scooters from Rimini Lambretta and Jesco are more optimized for chasing times on the racetrack and, with an expected output of around 80 hp, are well on track, it was rather unlikely that they would actually break the 100 hp mark. The Vespa smallframe scooters from Nico Pendl and Egig, on the other hand, were the favorites. Both equipped with an Egig 400 cylinder, two carburetors each and a straight prototype exhaust, they were optimally prepared for the battle on the test bench. Egig had already achieved 104 hp on a test bench in Italy this year. Nico had already achieved results in the high 90s and had continued to work on his engine over the winter.
As host, Jesco made the start. He was very satisfied with 87 hp at the rear wheel. The second contender was the Lambretta from Rimini - a two-cylinder engine with 250 cc, built entirely in-house, which prefers to work in the five-digit speed range and produces a sound that is reminiscent of racing machines in the motorcycle world championship. 80.5 hp were on the clock at 12,500 rpm.
Then it was Nico Pendl's turn. Although he was not really satisfied with 91 hp, he took the lead. The last candidate was Erich "Egig" Oberpertinger. His performance was eagerly awaited. Could he confirm the 100 hp on the calibrated SIP test bench? Unfortunately, he had to settle for "only" 95 hp. However, 95 hp on the rear wheel of an old Vespa with originally around 3 hp is an incredible performance - and meant victory on the day. The 1,000 euro voucher offered by SIP for reaching the 100 hp mark will therefore have to wait at least another year for its owner.
In addition to the open class, prizes were also awarded for the best street-legal manual scooter and the best automatic scooter. The prize for the most powerful street scooter went to "Schorse" from Gamba Racing, while the most powerful automatic scooter measured was the Yamaha Aerox from Lukas Weinberg.
And last but not least, an electric scooter from Prosimo rolled onto the test stand - and took victory in this new class with 31.5 hp. A category that we will probably have to get used to.
Vespa & Lambretta Custom Show
A Custom Show took place for the first time - a new format that attempted to showcase some of the lovingly converted scooters that gather in the Open Day parking lot every year. At 3.30 p.m., ten particularly elaborately customized and rare specimens stood on the traffic circle in front of the SIP building. Four of them were shortlisted and presented to the public - along with their owners - in an interview.
Choosing the winner was particularly difficult for the jury, as two of the creations on show were truly unique in their design. In the end, Dave from Nuremberg came out on top with his homage to a legendary Mazda racing car with a Wankel engine - just ahead of the conversion for acceleration races of an NSU Lambretta by Kris from Munich.
After that, SIP Scootershop officially closed its doors, but the celebrations continued throughout the city and at various venues well into the night.
SIP Scootershop CEO Ralf Jodl summed up the day in the evening: "The SIP Open Day 2025 had an incredible energy. So many guests from near and far with their lovingly converted scooters make this event something very special. There wasn't a single hotel bed left in Landsberg and the surrounding area. What other event has the power to attract people from Tokyo, Belarus and Turkey to Landsberg at their own expense? We are already looking forward to the next SIP Open Day - it will take place again after Ascension Day on May 16, 2026 - save the date!"
