More Texas Families Exploring Alternative Education Options As Popularity And Ease Of Homeschooling Grow

Each year thousands of families take part in the annual Texas Homeschool Expo, which brings together homeschool curriculum and resource providers from across the country. Over 100 companies and dozens of speakers will participate across 2 weekends in both Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio.

The number of families choosing to homeschool grew from 3.7 million children in 2023 to 4.3 million in 2024 according the U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey. The passage of SB2, which will offer state funding to families choosing private schools and/or homeschooling, is likely to increase the accessibility of homeschooling for families seeking educational alternatives.

Homeschooling families are secular and religious, large and small, and come in all races and ethnicities. Because no two homeschooling families look exactly alike, the Texas Homeschool Expo features a diverse selection that allows attendees to explore many options and make the selections that most appeal to them. Founder Jasmine Lee, a local homeschooling mom, created the Texas Homeschool Expo in 2023 to support local families seeking information and options.

New this year at the Dallas-Fort Worth location, the Texas Homeschool Expo Children's Business Fair (https://www.texashomeschoolexpo.com/childrens-business-fair) will offer participating children the opportunity gain entrepreneurial skills by running their own business booths and selling directly to the public. Over 20 student-run businesses are taking part, led by children ages 5-15. Products range from homemade décor, apparel, and jewelry to interactive games and caricature drawings.
