DIDCOT, UK - The founder of a bee-saving company which focuses on sustainable beekeeping is aiming to change the way pest management is conducted in the UK.

At a time when environmental consciousness is more vital than ever, Eradikil UK Ltd, founded in 2022 by Shane-Daniel North, is leading the charge in combining ethical pest management with environmental stewardship. Based in Oxfordshire, this local business is now making national waves through its bee-saving initiatives and pioneering educational outreach.

Removing a bee hive can cost anywhere between 500 and 10,000, primarily due to the need for scaffolding and qualified tradespeople to access and repair walls, chimneys or roof cavities after safe hive removal. Faced with these costs, many property owners opt for chemical treatments that destroy the colony outright.

However, this approach has dangerous ecological consequences.

"Destroying a hive doesn't just eliminate one colony, it risks poisoning other bee populations," said Shane.

"Bees are natural scavengers. If honey contaminated with insecticide is left behind, nearby colonies may steal it, causing secondary die-offs. Worse still, this honey can then enter the human food chain."

With nearly a decade in the pest control industry, focusing on relocation over eradication, Shane has only ever treated two hives, and only under guidance from qualified bodies where there was a severe and immediate danger to human life.

His current GoFundMe campaign, Help Me Help The Bees, has been set up to enable him to offer bee removals for a subsidised rate, with the difference funded through public donations. These removals are then documented on the company's YouTube channel, @EradikilPestControl [https://www.youtube.com/@EradikilPestControl], raising awareness and educating the public.

All relocated hives are transferred to Eradikil's own dedicated apiary, ensuring their safety, continued pollination, and honey production.

"I believe in solving pest issues through sustainable methods, not destruction," he said. "This campaign is about giving people a better option."

Shane's fascination with insects and animals began in childhood. "People often ask how I can be a pest controller if I love animals so much," he reflects. "The answer is simple; my job is to control, not destroy."

Raised in Oxfordshire, Shane's personal story is one of resilience. Battling undiagnosed ADHD and dyslexia, he struggled in formal education but found his strengths in hands-on work and creative projects. After trying over 25 different jobs, it was pest control that finally clicked, offering the perfect balance of problem-solving, environmental care, and client support.

"Every animal and insect plays a role in our ecosystem," Shane says. "Bees are irreplaceable. If we lose them, we lose far more than honey, we lose the very foundation of our food systems. I want to leave a legacy of sustainable practice and education."

In a recent feature with Professional Pest Controller magazine, Shane outlined ambitious plans to double the company's size, hire a full-time content creator, and eventually establish a teaching centre for bee conservation and pest management.
