When was the last time you truly lived your life-not through a screen, but fully present in each moment?
On an eighteen-day vacation, I found myself disconnected from the internet and my devices for most of the trip. What began as a frustrating inconvenience quickly became a revelation: most people aren't living life-they are merely watching from the sidelines.
That trip inspired The Forgotten Rules of Living Life , a guide to reclaiming joy, connection, and meaning in a world that's constantly pulling us away from what matters most. In the book, I share fifty simple yet transformative rules to help you take control of your life-from learning how to take it slow, to becoming more trustworthy and attentive, to truly learning the art of living in the moment, and more.

What inspired you to write The Forgotten Rules of Living Life?
The inspiration for The Forgotten Rules of Living Life struck during a vacation when I noticed something unsettling. On a tour filled with breathtaking sights, most people weren't taking in the moment-they were glued to their phones, scrolling through curated glimpses of someone else's life. This wasn't an isolated phenomenon. I saw it everywhere: at restaurants, movie theaters, even concerts. People were so absorbed in virtual lives that they were missing their own.
I realized how much richer life could be if we simply stepped away from the screen and reconnected with the world around us. That's why I wrote this book-to offer a guide for living fully and authentically. The 50 steps I share are designed to help people reclaim their time, rediscover joy, and start truly living, just as they've helped me and so many others. It's time to stop watching and start doing.
How did your background and experience influence your writing?
With over 40 years as a motivational speaker, I've had the privilege of sharing powerful lessons and life strategies with audiences around the world. Throughout my career, I often incorporated the principles featured in The Forgotten Rules of Living Life into my talks, using real stories and practical advice to inspire meaningful change. The response was overwhelming-audiences not only embraced these ideas but urged me to capture them in a book so that even more people could benefit. Their encouragement became the driving force behind this project, transforming my speaking experiences into a roadmap for living a richer, more fulfilling life.
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
The message I want readers to take away is simple: stop comparing your life to the curated, exaggerated versions of reality you see online or in casual conversations. What people often project isn't who they truly are-it's who they want the world to think they are. Chasing those illusions is a losing game.
Instead, focus on living your own life authentically and fully. When you embrace your own unique journey, you'll find that it's not only easier, more satisfying, and fun, but it also naturally attracts the right people and opportunities to you. So, take charge of your story and live your life your way. You'll see that the brilliance of being your true, authentic self will inspire others to follow suit.
