Student Leaders of Concordia Shanghai Win ACAMIS Service Learning Grant
When service learning is embraced as a key part of holistic education, it leads to meaningful outcomes and fosters ethical leadership in students. Over the past years, Envision Education-a student-led initiative at Concordia-has truly made its mark, both in and outside of China. They've donated over 100 computers, built three technology labs, which have benefited more than 500 students in rural schools. In recognition of their impact, the team was recently awarded the 2025 ACAMIS (Association of China and Mongolia International Schools) Service Learning Grant, receiving $1,200 to support their continued efforts.Image: https://www.globalnewslines.com/uploads/2025/05/601edc5b1715ad03a1788692301bc13b.jpg

Envision Education was started by two current Concordia seniors, Shreyas S. and Rulin H. This student-led club is all about bringing digital learning opportunities to rural schools where students don't have sufficient access to technology resources for learning.

So far, the team has made three separate service trips in and outside of China: Twice to Nepal in 2024 and 2025, and once to Zhaoqing (Guangdong) in 2023. Each trip was carefully planned and organized by the students with a mission to bring tech access to different schools by providing computers, tablets, and projectors.
From fundraising and shipping equipment to creating teaching and training materials for local students and teachers, the students led every step of the process. Bit by bit, they're making a real difference.
Their actions are empowering local children to think big-bringing the world to their fingertips through access to digital resources.
As one of the Envision team members writes, "It had been a long journey to get to this point, but looking at the fascination of the children made overcoming the literal and metaphorical challenges worth it."
At Concordia, service learning is more than just projects - it embeds ethical leadership, problem-solving, and long-term change into the very fabric of school culture. By doing so, we don't just prepare students for the future: we empower them to shape it.
