Nepal Reveals Combined Manaslu-Annapurna Circuit Trek as Nation's New Flagship Adventure Route

In a significant development for Nepal's trekking industry, a new long-distance trail combining the Manaslu and Annapurna circuits has officially been introduced for the 2025 season. The Manaslu-Annapurna Circuit Trek hailed as one of the most comprehensive trekking experiences in the Himalayas, offers a continuous route connecting two of Nepal's most iconic and geographically diverse regions.

The trail, which spans an estimated 300 kilometers, guides trekkers through the restricted and relatively untouched Manaslu Conservation Area before linking with the globally renowned Annapurna Circuit. The journey traverses two of the country's most dramatic high-mountain passes Larkya La (5,160 meters) and Thorong La (5,416 meters) providing sweeping views of some of the world's highest peaks, including Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), Annapurna I (8,091 meters), and Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters).

According to local operators, the combined route is expected to gain popularity among seasoned trekkers seeking a more immersive and culturally rich alternative to the increasingly commercialized Everest and Annapurna base camp treks.

"This newly integrated route bridges two of the most scenic and culturally significant regions of Nepal," said Jiban Thapaliya, Managing Director of Adventure Vision Treks and Travels, a Kathmandu-based travel and trekking operator. The trek, which typically takes 22 to 28 days to complete, starts in Arughat or Machha Khola in the Gorkha District, winds through the remote highlands of Manaslu, and eventually descends into the trans-Himalayan valleys of Mustang and Manang before concluding in Jomsom or Besisahar. It allows trekkers to explore ancient monasteries, glacial rivers, alpine meadows, subtropical forests, and dry rain-shadow regions within a single expedition.

Government officials and tourism stakeholders anticipate the route will contribute positively to Nepal's sustainable tourism model, as it directs visitors through lesser-visited areas and supports locally owned teahouses and community-run lodges.

To undertake the trek, international trekkers must obtain multiple permits, including a Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). A registered guide is also mandatory for the Manaslu section, according to the policies of the Department of Immigration and the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN).

Trekking agencies have already begun accepting early bookings for the Autumn (September-November) 2025 seasons. With limited accommodation facilities in the higher regions, operators have advised trekkers to reserve their spots well in advance.
