Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Art Museum will host the Midwest premiere of Africa: A Kung Fu Story on Thursday, June 5 at 6:00 PM. The screening, held during the Museum's Free Admission Day, is open to the public and includes a 30-minute post-screening talkback with award-winning composer Arnold Cifax Jr.
Africa: A Kung Fu Story is a vibrant documentary chronicling the journey of international filmmakers-including stunt performers, cinematographers, and writers-who travel to Tanzania to teach young Shaolin martial artists how to create their own films. As the students choreograph action scenes and shape their own stories, they begin to emerge as East Africa's first generation of action movie stars. Directed by Eric Mazimpaka, a Nairobi-born filmmaker who was raised in Uganda and Rwanda before pursuing a career in film and stunt performance in Canada. The film highlights a powerful blend of discipline, creativity, and self-determination.
Arnold Cifax Jr., a Milwaukee native, who composed the film's original score, will lead a live 30-minute talkback following the screening. "Scoring Africa: A Kung Fu Story was one of the most fulfilling creative experiences of my career," says Cifax. "I wrote over 60 cues and crafted 30 of them into the final soundtrack, blending East African textures with Chinese instruments like the Xun and Erhu."
Cifax's score has been recognized globally, winning Best Original Score at the Rome International Movie Awards, Los Angeles Film Awards, WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, and Best Soundtrack at the Cannes World Film Festival.
