Real Estate Developer Advocates for Resilient Housing and Community Readiness
With hurricanes and extreme weather events becoming more frequent in South Texas, real estate developer Jesus Juraidini [https://www.jesusjuraidini.com/] is raising awareness about the importance of disaster preparedness and the need for more resilient housing solutions in vulnerable communities.

"As developers, we need to think beyond just building homes-we need to build homes that can withstand the challenges of this region," said Juraidini. "Too often, families are left unprepared for major storms, and the damage is devastating."

The Growing Threat of Extreme Weather

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Texas has experienced over $100 billion in damages from hurricanes and extreme weather events in the last decade. With Brownsville located along the Gulf Coast, it remains one of the most at-risk areas for hurricanes and flooding.

"We've seen it happen time and again-homes are destroyed, families are displaced, and rebuilding efforts take years," Juraidini explained. "But with better planning and stronger infrastructure, we can minimize these losses."

A Plan for Resilient Communities

Juraidini is advocating for a multi-pronged approach to disaster preparedness, with a focus on:

*
Stronger Building Codes - Encouraging the adoption of hurricane-resistant construction materials and reinforced roofing to reduce storm damage.

*
Flood-Resistant Infrastructure - Promoting better drainage systems and elevated housing designs in flood-prone areas.

*
Emergency Preparedness Programs - Partnering with local organizations to provide homeowners with resources on disaster readiness, evacuation planning, and insurance options.

"We can't wait until the next storm to take action," said Juraidini. "We need to start now by ensuring new developments are built with resilience in mind and existing homeowners have the tools to prepare."

Encouraging Public and Private Collaboration

Juraidini is working with local officials and fellow developers to push for better zoning laws and construction incentives that prioritize disaster-resistant housing. He is also urging community members to take a proactive approach by securing their homes, investing in flood insurance, and creating evacuation plans.

"This isn't just about one storm-it's about long-term safety," he stated. "If we work together, we can build communities that are stronger, safer, and better prepared for whatever comes our way."
