Kestrel Capital and Rita and Charles Field-Marsham Give Support to the Mukuru Promotion Centre

Kestrel Capital and Rita and Charles Field-Marsham, through their foundation, donated 140,00 Kenya shillings to the Mukuru Promotion Centre located in Mukuru, a district of Nairobi and home to many thousands of large families living in small settlement structures with limited resources and access to sanitation and health care.

Created in 1985 by the Sisters of Mercy, the Mukuru Promotion Centre provides children living in the Mukuru community with much needed education, health care, daily food and housing. In 11 years, the organization has grown to educate and provide food for more than 4,000 children each day; provides a residential home for street boys and orphaned children; includes a curative clinic offering free medical care as well as offers home-based care for terminally ill and AIDS/TB patients.

In addition, the Mukuru Promotion Centre is a primary centre for health education, and rehabilitation services for street children, and provides agriculture and skills training to members of the community.

Rita and Charles Field-Marsham are significant contributors to charities in Kenya, specifically in the area of health, education and community outreach. Sister Sally Mounsey, Mukuru Promotion Centre Program Manager said “You and I can only guess at the gratitude in the heart of the boy/girl who has been offered such a real lifeline to a better future.”

Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC) is a church based Voluntary Organization, which has been working since 1985 in the Mukuru Slums of Nairobi. The MPC headquarters is situated in the Industrial Area of the City. It has programmes operating in four areas of the Mukuru Slums. At present MPC runs four primary schools for approximately 4,200 children, a residential home for sixty orphans and vulnerable children; a rehabilitation Centre for about fifty street boys; a medical clinic with a HIV/AIDS testing Centre attached, a small community based health care program; a skills Centre for sixty girls and a sponsorship programme to secondary schools for about one hundred children.
