Gujarat government wants to receive Rs. 40,783 crore in grant from Centre to help develop the industry of semiconductors within Sanand as well Dholera SIR

It is reported that the Gujarat state government's Department of Science and Technology has demanded an amount of Rs. 40.783 crore from the Government of India to develop the industry of semiconductors located in Sanand as well as Dholera SIR in the next six years.

Ahmedabad: Department of Science and Technology Gujarat government has requested a massive Rs 40,783 crore in grants from the Government of India (GOI) for the growth of the semiconductor industry in the Dholera SIR region and Sanand close to Ahmedabad over the next six years.

Mona Khandhar, principal secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, said that "the goals that the State Government has are of a sustainable and robust electronic and semiconductor ecosystems in the Sanand as well as Dholera SIR region in next six years."

"Of five of the semiconductor factories that were approved through the GoI under the Semicon India programme, four projects are currently being developed in Gujarat. A cluster of chip packaging is developing in GIDC Sanand. It is home to major initiatives by Micron Technology Inc, CG Semi and Kaynes Semicon. The first commercial Indian semiconductor fabrication is currently being constructed within Dholera SIR by TATA Electronics Pvt. Ltd. In addition, the government is actively collaborating with various ecosystem partners as well as several projects are in the process of deciding to set up factories in Gujarat. The development of these projects strategically in the state offers a unique opportunity to put Gujarat prominently on the global supply chain for semiconductors by focusing on the development of the supplier ecosystem. Infrastructure Development requires significant development and improvement of the industrial infrastructure, which includes logistics, utilities, and security systems, to be in line with international standards. The establishment of a strong supply chain is essential to help support this industry. This requires coordination among many stakeholders. The development of the workforce is also an important issue and requires more financial resources," Khandhar said.

Khandhar added that "establishment of special manufacturing clusters located in Sanand and Dholera which offer plug-and-play utility services which allow businesses to scale operations rapidly and effectively. The long-term sustainability of the industry is driven by the semiconductor industry, which contributes to GDP as well as regional development. A better integration of Gujarat's ecosystem of semiconductors to global supply chains facilitates trade and cooperation between international marketplaces. The enhanced Security and Logistics frameworks ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operations and transportation. The frameworks will position Gujarat as a key supplier of semiconductors, increasing the state's global trade forecasted funds requirement is estimated at Rs.40,783 crore within the next six years. We have asked the National Finance Commission as well as India's government India to provide special grants.
