Imaginary Heroes

Imaginary Heroes

Vancouver, BC - Author Michael Seidelman is set to release Imaginary Heroes, a Middle Grade (ages 8-12) novel inspired by his personal experiences growing up with Tourette Syndrome and being bullied at school. The book will be available from Chewed Pencil Press on April 15, 2025 in eBook, paperback and hardcover in some bookstores and wherever books are sold online.

Imaginary Heroes follows twelve-year-old Matthew, who struggles with Tourette Syndrome and relentless bullies. He finds comfort in his imaginary friends-a tough girl named Nabie and a lovable green monster named Garby. But when Matthew and his tormentors become trapped in a mysterious underground lair, they must work together to escape before the darkness consumes them all.

"Like Matthew, I was greatly affected by Tourette Syndrome as a child." Seidelman said. "I was also teased when I ticked and faced bullying at school. Although the story is fictional, the book is inspired by my own childhood experiences. I wanted to craft an engaging story while exploring issues many kids can relate to-told from the perspective of someone who has lived them firsthand."

He added, "Nabie and Garby aren't just characters I created-they were my actual imaginary friends growing up. Writing this book was a deeply personal journey, and I hope it helps kids see that they are not alone."

With Imaginary Heroes, Seidelman delivers a thrilling and emotional adventure that speaks to the challenges of living with a neurological disorder while also emphasizing the importance of empathy and kindness.

The author is best known for writing for teens, with The Garden of Syn Trilogy, which follows a teenager struggling with cystic fibrosis who finds herself in a mysterious garden where illness and death don't exist.

Michael Seidelman lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where he is working on his next novel.
