Schneider Electric introduces 'One Digital Grid' platform

The One Digital Grid platform from Schneider Electric is aimed to equip utilities with the data and technical foundation needed to navigate modern energy challenges.

Leveraging the Microsoft Azure cloud architecture and AI, the platform seeks to offer a complete ecosystem of solutions, including third party independent solutions, with a focus on three core use cases - grid planning, grid operations and grid flexibility.

Plug-and-play integration is designed to simplify the deployment of new technologies, while multi-layered cybersecurity measures protect critical infrastructure from evolving threats.

For grid planning and asset management the platform integrates advanced design, validation and data management tools that should help utilities ensure long-term grid reliability and optimise infrastructure investments by reducing capital and operational costs.

For grid operations and resiliency, the platform provides real-time and go-forward awareness by leveraging operational and third-party data and utilising first-party predictive analytics and advanced solutions from industry leaders, such as asset monitoring company AiDASH, to deeply understand climate risk.

These capabilities can improve disaster response, maximise efficiency and enhance grid flexibility, even during extreme weather events.

For grid flexibility and customer engagement, the platform should empower utilities to seamlessly integrate distributed resources.

It also should support a more dynamic, consumer-driven energy ecosystem by streamlining interoperability with solutions from partners such as prosumer engagement platform provider Uplight.

Innovation and AI

Alongside the announcement of the One Digital Grid platform, Schneider Electric also announced it has joined EPRI as a member, as part of its partnership activities to enable innovation with a focus on focuses on creating flexible data centre architecture and demand response programmes.

Current partnerships include collaborations with Microsoft, Esri and Uplight.

The company also highlighted plans to invest over $700 million in its US operations through 2027 to support growth in AI and manufacturing demand in the energy infrastructure and with the promise of over 1,000 new jobs.
