Tightening Thai Temples Security with Technology

Sanyo in cooperation with the Office of National Buddhism announces its social responsibility project entitled Protect National Treasure by Sanyo CCTV, aiming to tighten security system using CCTV technology at historic temples across the country. The pilot project at Wat Bang Pla Mor in Ayudhya Province is expected to complete by the middle of this March. The company expects to donate one set for every 100 CCTV sold to Wat and important national historical sites nationwide.

Mr. Tsutomu Morimoto Managing Director, Sanyo (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a leading technology provider, said that Sanyo marketing strategy for 2008 is focusing on social responsibility activities. The first project in cooperation with the Office of National Buddhism, which is “Protect National Treasure by Sanyo CCTV”, aims to implement Sanyo CCTV security system at important national historical sites around the country. The pilot project is at Wat Bang Pla Mor in Amphur Bangbal, Ayudhya province, and more projects expected to announce throughout 2008.

“This project is one of Sanyo social responsibility activities under the company’s CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility management policy, which is the heart of environmental protection and returns wealthy to the community. The project expects encourage both Sanyo and its customers to give the communities a helping hand. Therefore, for every 100 units of Sanyo CCTV sold we will donate one unit with complete installation package to the social, especially to ancient temples and local historic sites. With our sale figure of 15,000 units sold last year, which is expected to increase by 25 per cent to 20,000 units this year, interpreting that we will be able to donate at least 200 units of Sanyo CCTV worth about seven million baht to the social this year,” Mr. Morimoto said.

Mrs. Ranee Sittikaew, Senior Manager, Security Surveillance Sales Section, Sanyo (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said “Protect National Treasure by Sanyo CCTV” is a long-term project, which new projects will be continuing announced throughout 2008. List of important historical sites in Thailand are provided by the Office of National Buddhism. The project expects to implement security system to over 50 important Buddhist temples across the country. The most important national historic sites in particular, will receive tight specially security implementation to prevent antique objects from being stolen.

Mrs. Ranee further remarked that Sanyo will provide expert technicians to explore and implement CCTV security system at national historic temples on sites. This service includes training program to concerned parties responsible for the sites’ security. Each site will have different installation packages depending on their surroundings. For example, there will be four CCTV with protective cases to capture clear image in low light being installed at Wat Bang Pla Mor’s chapel. Delivery is scheduled by the middle of this March.

“The Office of National Buddhism considers ‘Protect National Treasure by Sanyo CCTV’ as specimen activity in returning wealthy to the social by business organization,” said Mrs. Chularatana Boonyagorn, Director General, the Office of National Buddhism. “We are fully supporting them with advisory consultation on important local historic sites and temples in the country.”

“Most Thai temples are still lacking of reliable security system. These results to valuable objects and antiquities such as old Buddha statues and donate boxes being frequent stolen. The reason is that most temples do not have budgets enough to install CCVT security system. Thus, this Sanyo-initiated project is a great merit making activity that both Sanyo and its customers collaboratively do for the social. The Office of National Buddhism’s role is carefully selecting participating temples of the project. Those temples should have antique and sacred objects that are part of the local history in custody. They should also never be installed with CCTV so that Sanyo can continue support and develop tighter security system in the future,” Mrs. Chularatana added.
