B.F. Raid Expands Upcoming Album with Two Versions of "Love Lies," Featuring Original Drummer Barry Silverman and Saxophonist Douglas Leaffer
Boston-based heavy metal band B.F. Raid (Boston's Final Raid) is set to take a bold step with their upcoming album by recording two distinct versions of their new track "Love Lies." One version will deliver the band's signature high-energy, riff-driven metal sound, while an alternative mix will introduce a blues-jazz fusion featuring original B.F. Raid drummer Barry Silverman and renowned Boston saxophonist Douglas Leaffer."Love Lies" is more than just another track-it serves as Part II of "Within The Wine," a song from B.F. Raid's 2024 album Raided Again. Expanding on the themes introduced in its predecessor, "Love Lies" deepens the story with darker tones, heavier instrumentation, and a more intricate musical arrangement. By offering two versions of the song, B.F. Raid is giving fans a unique experience-one that delivers both the raw power of their metal roots and a rich, exploratory alternative take.
The alternative mix of "Love Lies" sees the return of Barry Silverman, who played drums for B.F. Raid in the 1980s before reinventing himself as a highly sought-after jazz pianist. Since transitioning from metal drumming, Silverman has become a staple in the New England jazz scene, performing across the region as a solo artist and with his trio on numerous recordings. His ability to seamlessly blend technical proficiency with expressive improvisation makes him the perfect fit for this reinterpretation of "Love Lies."
Joining Silverman on the track is Douglas Leaffer, one of Boston's most accomplished and in-demand jazz saxophonists. Leaffer has built an impressive resume, playing with legendary acts such as Foreigners Journey and The Temptations. Whether performing as a sideman or leading his own band, Leaffer is known for his ability to bring soulful, electrifying energy to every performance. His inclusion on the track will introduce a new melodic depth, infusing the song with warmth, groove, and blues-inspired phrasing.
For B.F. Raid guitarist and songwriter Bruce Owens, this collaboration is a natural evolution of the band's sound. "Having these two amazing jazz musicians on this track is not a reach," Owens explains. "The song is drenched in blues riffs, and their contributions will bring a new dynamic to the alternative mix, giving the album even more musical depth. The original version will have all the heavy energy our fans expect, but the alternate take will allow us to push the song in an entirely different direction, adding layers of emotion, groove, and improvisation."
B.F. Raid's untitled follow-up to Raided Again is set to begin recording in summer 2025, with an anticipated early fall 2025 release. As the band continues to evolve, they remain deeply committed to their heavy metal roots while embracing opportunities to experiment with new sounds and influences. By recording two versions of "Love Lies," B.F. Raid is showcasing their artistic versatility and their willingness to push creative boundaries while still delivering the intensity and passion that fans expect.
With this upcoming release, B.F. Raid promises an album that is powerful, immersive, and musically adventurous. Fans can look forward to a collection of thunderous riffs, intricate melodies, and genre-blending collaborations that highlight the band's ability to evolve while staying true to their core sound.
