Gerald Barclay's "Killa Hill" Docuseries

For Immediate Release - New York, NY - March 11, 2025 - Method Man with Wu-Tang Clan mates and The Wire's Hassan Johnson lend their voices to new "Killa Hill" docuseries airing on Tubi TV April 1, 2025.

The Killa Hill series, by longtime Wu-Tang video director Gerald "Gee-Bee" Barclay, is executive produced by RZA, Raekwon, Herman Dawson and Gano Grills. The project was over 40 years in the making.

Barclay said of the project, "I moved to Park Hill in 1983 and began compiling photos and video footage of the community through its many phases. It wasn't until 2006 that I realized I am the griot of Park Hill, birthplace of Wu-Tang. With the release of "Wu: The story of the Wu-Tang Clan" on BET in 2007, followed many other projects. The 16-part docuseries presented over two seasons delves into the socio-economic, law enforcement, racial, and mental health of Park Hill's inhabitants before, during and after the drug era."

Barclay premiered the first five episodes to a packed OURS Studios audience in Decatur, GA. on February 22nd, 2025. The series is arranged in chronological order beginning with his perspective of Park Hill.

Lifestyle reenactments from the statements of both former and present-day residents enthralled the audience; a correlation could be made between the events in the series, and Wu-Tang's references to the community in their music. But overall, anyone apart of a similar social climate could relate one way or another to the series.

Each episode presented unforeseen, compelling plots. Through the dejection of each scenario, a broader picture emerged about how trauma is processed in underserved communities.

Dr. Tuggle/social work professor at Auburn University had this to say about the premier: "The project is an excellent execution of ethnography on film. I love how Gerald Barclay takes viewers into the lived experiences of Park Hill residents and showcases the reality of inner city life in marginalized neighborhoods. As a social worker who focuses on community and social development, the docuseries chronicles the disparate and fatal social outcomes of failing to invest in these communities... There are so many concepts about human behavior in the social environment that can be introduced and reinforced through the film."

On February 26th, Killa Hill episodes were screened before the Wagner College sociology department. Among those in attendance were representatives from the Richmond County District Attorney's office, Legal Aid Society and Wagner educators to discuss the intersection of crime, anti-Black racism, immigration, and the sense of "home" following the screening.

In November of 2024, an episode was previewed at the SVA Theater in NYC in conjunction with the "Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre" as seen on PBS, also directed by Barclay.

Killa Hill then made its debut at the Three Chambers festival in Wilmington, North Carolina on December 4th as seen on WECT 6 News.

While the docuseries echoes painful events and grieves the loss of the voiceless, it manages to highlight the injustice of a system that failed a community. In examining what can't be undone in it's myriad forms, an understanding can be gained from this series, to better address the Killa Hills of world.

Among Inspectah Deck and others, who contributed to the series' soundtrack, was Method Man's daughter "Chey" and ODB's son "Weatherpark," who performed at the NY screening following that at Wagner College.
