ICP DAS USA partners with Teletrac Navman to integrate ICP DAS data acquisition products in Teletrac Navman’s fleet management technologies.

Teletrac Navman specializes in vehicle and equipment tracking using their proprietary software which collects data including GPS position and engine parameters communicated via J1939 protocol. Fleet managers are constantly finding new ways to build a stronger, more efficient fleet. By Teletrac Navman teaming with ICP DAS USA, they were able to develop a program that monitors their fleet of rental compressors for their clients.

The Teletrac Navman Telemetry software would monitor position and compressor parameters like usage (hours of operation), engine parameters and diagnostic information remotely using the Iridum satellite network to locate assets around the planet.The problem that they encountered was that the compressors were only able to communicate via Modbus while the Teletrac Navman interface was only able to communicate via J1939 protocol. Introducing the ICP DAS product enabled Teletrac Navman with modbus capaility overnight. ICP DAS' ability to quickly optimize the product to match Teletrac requirements was priceless.

ICP DAS, specializing in Data Communication products for automation, offers gateways and converters from most protocols (Modbus, CAN, Profibus, Ethernet IP) and communication interfaces (RS-485, RS-232, CANbus, Fiber). By implementing ICP DAS’ GW-7238D, it allowed a gateway that provided a conversion between J1939 and Modbus TCP/ Modbus RTU protocol. Its gateways provided a communication between 2 protocols, bridging the gap between one protocol’s Master device and another protocol’s slave devices by mapping of one protocol’s registers or commands to a corresponding set of registers or requests.

In addition to ICP DAS gateways, it offers programmable controllers which can be programmed to communicate between devices connected to it com ports or via Ethernet port. These com ports and Ethernet ports can be configured to communicate to other devices which have various protocols or message structures. The most important requirement being that the controller has the correct type of communication port or ports if communicating to devices which have different protocols. These controllers can be programmed using many standard C programming environments.
