KNOBLOCH moves - Mailboxes from Döbeln for the whole world

The Döbeln-based manufacturer of letter and parcel boxes describes itself with a wink as Germany's oldest letter box company. With around 170 employees, KNOBLOCH is one of the largest employers in the town. Now there is a great success to report: The relocation from the two previous Döbeln sites to the former premises of automotive supplier Autoliv on Eichbergstraße was completed on schedule. The mood of the workforce, who came up with the name KNOBLOCH CITY for the new company headquarters, can best be described as "off to new shores!".

Highly satisfied management

"A precision landing after more than 3 years of planning and preparation, to the day," says a delighted Thomas Kolbe, Managing Director of the company, who cut the proverbial red ribbon for the workforce at a small ceremony today, Monday. Afterwards, there were guided tours of the new premises, during which the employees were able to explore departments in which they are otherwise rarely present. And even though much is new with the new location, one tradition remains: As always, pancakes were served on Shrove Monday. At KNOBLOCH, this is simply part of the experience, regardless of whether you call them doughnuts or doughnuts (there are supposed to be real religious wars on this point).

Why the parade, especially in such turbulent times?

"We wanted to grow and update our machinery and plant technology to the very latest state of the art. In addition, there were logistical requirements, so it quickly became clear that the old company headquarters, Hermann-Otto-Schmidt-Straße in the Gewerbegenbiet Ost, did not offer the required expansion options," continues Thomas Kolbe.

What a feat of strength this move represents for the company is already evident in the machine area: a state-of-the-art automatic painting system now replaces the previous manually operated spray guns, the sheet metal processing has been digitized and automated and upgraded with the latest technology, and the infrastructure has been comprehensively modernized. In addition to the technical equipment, the entire building has been refurbished - from new toilets and freshly renovated social rooms to new floors and work areas. According to Kolbe, the logistics deserve a special mention: thanks to several months of meticulous advance planning, the relocation of almost 170 employees from sales and administration, together with the vast number of computers that are common today, could be carried out with virtually no loss of production.

And a final comment from Kolbe: "We are celebrating this achievement, for which I would like to thank not only the companies involved, but above all our employees. Although this move represents the biggest upheaval in more than 150 years of company history, thanks to a great deal of personal commitment there were virtually no downtimes, either in production or in administration. The reward for our efforts is a state-of-the-art working environment with plenty of room for growth, combined with setting the course for long-term success."

Open day announced

Of course, there will also be an open day where interested people from Döbeln can find out more about the new company headquarters. The planned date is early fall of this year.

This construction project was co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament. In addition, subsidies from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection were used for the energy-efficient refurbishment based on a decision by the German Bundestag.
