A diode, also known as a diode tube, is the most fundamental electronic component in various electronic systems. It is a device with two electrodes, namely the cathode and the anode, and only allows current to flow in one direction. The earliest diodes were composed of vacuum tubes or tubes filled with low-pressure gas, while nowadays they are mostly made of semiconductor materials. A diode is like a valve or switch for current, which can control the current and achieve the function of rectification, that is, converting alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). Diodes are widely used in electronic products.
Diodes are composed of semiconductor materials. In the past, germanium was mostly used as the material, but now silicon is mostly used. The diode component is formed by joining P-type and N-type semiconductors within the semiconductor to form a PN junction or PN junction. The so-called two poles are two semiconductors with different polarities, namely P-type and N-type. The P-type semiconductor end, which is positively charged, is called the "anode", and the N-type semiconductor end, which is negatively charged, is called the "cathode". When the P-type end is connected to the positive pole of the battery, current can pass through; when it is connected to the negative pole of the battery, current cannot pass through, thus enabling the current to flow in one direction and achieving the effect of rectification, that is, converting alternating current into direct current.
