What inspired you to write your first book?

I was a primary school teacher for a little while in my early career path and watching the shift to short form media made me think can I write in short form to inspire and elicit critical thinking skills. After living around the world and in the country and city it's easy to forget about the natural world and the damage that is being done through our collective lifestyles. I wrote these poems to encourage reflection in a subtle way.

How did you come up with the title?

The title "The Last Words of Albion" draws on the ancient name for the British Isles, evoking the rich history and cultural legacy of our nation. It serves as a reflective metaphor on the decline of the once-vibrant spirit of the Elizabethan epoch, suggesting that the modern world may be witnessing the final echoes of an era characterised by its unique contributions to art, literature, and society.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I'd love for people to reflect on what is important in our world and about how our collective future is in jeopardy. Can we consider this great civilization of the 21st century civilized if we so destroy the environment in which we live?

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

This is tricky because I'd like to make the book longer with more historical moments but at the same time, I'd like to keep it short enough to be a quick read with lots of reflective opportunity.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I'm currently working on an academic journal publishing project, making the latest academic knowledge short-form accessible and engaging. We've had articles on AlphaFold to BMI and we publish a digital and physical copy every Autumn, Winter and Spring.

Do you have to travel much concerning your book?

I haven't had the opportunity to travel too much internationally yet, although I would love to do a U.S. book fair tour. Otherwise I have travelled a little in the UK to some smaller events, I love to meet new people interested in children's literature.

What is your favorite positive saying?

Happy Monday! I love when we greet each other in a positive way. In French it's probably bonne journée.

Picture this: You feel uninspired and you've sat at the computer for an hour without conquering any words. How do you get your creativity flowing?

I think for me that's time to get moving, perhaps do some yoga or go for a run or walk. It's super important to get to a totally clear space before coming back.

Do you like audiobooks, physical books, or e-books better? Why?

There is something about a physical book that cannot be replicated, I adore the feel of a light book, I appreciate some books are too big and heavy so e-books do have a place and I also love audiobooks, particularly when the author reads with their own inflections or the characters if a fiction audiobook, I guess I like them all then.

What is your favorite genre to read, and why?

My personal favorite genre is sci-fi, it probably makes me a total nerd but I found that as the world becomes increasingly Orwellian the time spent exploring dystopian futures is insightful. Perhaps one day I will write something however I have always preferred more optimistic futures such as Gene Roddenberry's work.
