JP Morgan Chase Mumbai Team Leader Sandeep gives Motivational Talk at JMA Pilani Rajasthan

The old model of a teacher delivering a one-way message through a lecture is no longer engaging 21st-century students both at School and University level.

To start with, schools are still offering what is called the broadcast model of learning, where the teacher is the broadcaster and the student is the supposedly willing recipient of the one-way message. Ironically, the definition of a lecture has become the process in which the notes of the teacher go to the notes of the student without going through the brains of either. Present generation of students who are tech savvy have entirely different learning habits.

To quote Harvard professor Eric Mazur, “Education is so much more than the mere transfer of information. The information has to be assimilated. Students have to connect the information to what they already know, nurture mental models, learn how to apply the new knowledge and how to adapt this knowledge to new and unfamiliar situations.” What counts these days is a student capacity to learn lifelong, to think, research, find information, analyze, synthesize, contextualize, critically evaluate it, to apply research to solving problems, to collaborate and communicate.

Mr Sandeep Sharma Team Leader JP Morgan Chase Mumbai who is also an alumnus of Birla School as well as BITS Pilani gave a motivational talk on 21 Nov 2016 to the students of JMA Pilani on becoming dreamers performers and achievers, goal setting strategies, problem solving skills, decision making skills, Communication skills, out of the box thinking, ability for time and stress management etc. Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan, Chairperson Dr Suman Mishra Chairperson and teachers also attended the session which ended with a question answer session.
