The University Club DC Celebrates Lunar New Year with Global Humanities Foundation and Global Dragon TV
Washington, DC - The University Club DC hosted its inaugural Chinese New Year celebration with the support of Global Humanities Foundation and Global Dragon TV. Guests from the greater Washington, DC area and beyond-including attendees from Africa and China-came together to ring in the Year of the Dragon with a night of cultural enrichment and festive revelry.
The event was a feast for the senses, featuring:
* Traditional Chinese Dragon Dance
* A dazzling Qipao Fashion Show and elegant dance performances
* The graceful Peacock Dance
* Captivating highlights from Peking Opera
* A mesmerizing performance by the Washington Chinese Youth Orchestra, a group of 24 talented musicians ranging in age from 9 to 18, playing both traditional and folk Chinese instruments such as the Guzheng.

The Washington Chinese Youth Orchestra, founded in 2010 by Dr. Gary Shaw, is a shining example of youth talent and dedication. Dr. Shaw, a cancer researcher at the National Cancer Institute and a violinist with the Chinese Washington Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra for over three decades, has been devoted to teaching and training young musicians. His commitment has nurtured the next generation of performers who are helping to preserve and celebrate Chinese musical traditions.

Adding to the evening's splendor was a performance by students from the Washington Guzheng School, founded by Ms. Gu Lei, a renowned Guzheng artist trained by top Chinese masters. Ms. Gu Lei and her students have earned accolades at national and international competitions, showcasing their mastery of this traditional Chinese string instrument.
Guests were treated to an open bar, a unique Asian-themed menu with delights such as salmon, dumplings, and exotic tropical fruits, and ample opportunities for social networking in a vibrant and welcoming setting.
