Chinese city Zhongshan invites tourists to come and celebrate Spring Festival

The 2025 Spring Festival marks the first Chinese New Year after Spring Festival was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. During Spring Festival, a greeting poster from Zhongshan, China, will be unveiled on the giant screen at Times Square in New York, sending the greetings and blessing to the world and inviting tourists from both home and abroad to celebrate the New Year in Zhongshan.

This is the first Spring Festival following the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a massive cross-sea passage in south China's Guangdong Province. Zhongshan has planned over 800 cultural and tourism events themed "Explore Beautiful Zhongshan", attracting both domestic and international visitors to experience the city's unique New Year celebrations and enjoy the "human warmth and the wonderful life of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA)".

From Chinese New Year's Eve, a wide variety of intangible cultural heritage activities will take place across 23 towns and streets in Zhongshan. The Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street, included in the first list of national historical & cultural streets and recreational & entertaining streets, will feature a series of events including intangible heritage parades, fire pot performances, New Year concerts, and lantern festivals. Zhongshan Movie & Television Town, one of China's top ten film bases, will showcase lion dance parades, Tang dynasty-style markets, flash mobs, and intangible cultural heritage performances including fire pot performances and Striking Iron Flowers. The 38th Zhongshan Charity Walk will be held on the 15th day of the lunar first month, gathering around 200 groups and over 20 intangible heritage performance teams. The event also aims to showcase the great love of the people of Zhongshan.

In addition to these events, Zhongshan has also launched a series of premium tourist routes, allowing visitors to explore the city's cultural traditions, natural scenery, and various delicacies. They will be able to savor the delicious flavors during the Food Carnival in Shiqi Subdistrict, the Family Banquet in Gangkou Town, and the traditional food-making activities in Sanxiang Town.

During the Spring Festival, nearly 100 cultural performances will be organized at cultural venues in Zhongshan, offering a cultural feast for both citizens and tourists. Moreover, more than one hundred various promotional activities will be held to meet the diverse and multi-level needs of the public.

Zhongshan, located at the geometric center of the GBA, is named after Sun Yat-sen, a renowned statesman who led a revolution that ended imperial rule in China. In June 2022, Zhongshan was approved by the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee to build the Integrated Development Reform and Innovation Experimental Zone on the East and West Banks of the Pearl River Estuary, the first of its kind in Guangdong. Seizing the historical opportunity of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, Zhongshan is advancing the "Six Integrations" with Shenzhen and striving to pioneer high-quality integrated development in the GBA.

According to statistics, from July to December 2024, six months after the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link was opened to traffic, the daily traffic volume averaged 82,000 vehicles, with the traffic flow continuing to grow steadily. This has helped Zhongshan welcome nearly 15 million tourists, increasing tourism revenue by over 30% to RMB 13 billion.
