Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives sets standards in sustainability
Malé, Maldives - Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives is committed to sustainable tourism with an extensive program of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) initiatives. With measures that promote environmental awareness, support the local community and help conserve resources, the hotel chain demonstrates how modern travel and sustainability can be reconciled. These activities are becoming increasingly important as German travelers are also paying more attention to their ecological footprint. At the same time, German airlines are making efforts to reduce their emissions - a promising development for environmentally conscious travelers.
Sustainability as a guiding principle
Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives has implemented a number of initiatives aimed at reducing waste, protecting the environment and promoting local biodiversity. A particular focus is on reducing single-use plastic:
- Plastic bottles are replaced by soft drink dispensers, drinks are served exclusively in glasses or paper cups with sustainable straws.
- Guests are given personalized aluminium bottles that can be reused - an active contribution to minimizing plastic waste.
- Innovative projects such as converting broken umbrellas into reusable beach bags fund aluminum bottles for local schools.
Recycling and environmental protection
Another focus is on recycling projects and protecting the environment in the ocean:
- Through the partnership with Parley Maldives, guests' plastic products are recycled into sportswear.
- The resort is involved in the production of Reef Cubes, which are made from recycled glass and concrete and create new habitats for marine life.
- Monthly beach clean-ups, in which guests also participate, help to remove plastic waste from the surrounding islands.
Promoting and preserving biodiversity
The resorts use environmentally friendly practices to protect marine life:
- Coral restoration projects help to preserve the reefs.
- Together with the Olive Ridley Project Initiative, injured sea turtles are cared for and released back into the wild.
- The absence of chemical pesticides protects pollinating insects and the environment.
Renewable energies and resource conservation
Another step towards sustainability is the use of solar energy and energy-efficient lighting systems. The resorts also recycle 100% of treated waste water for toilet flushing and garden irrigation and minimize water consumption through innovative technologies such as flow restrictors.
Commitment to the community
Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives supports the local economy by sourcing fruit and vegetables from regional suppliers. At the same time, guests are actively involved in sustainability projects, including coral planting and lectures on eco-friendly tourism.
A contribution to the climate protection movement
As part of the Maldives 5 Million Trees Project, the resort planted over 400 trees, sending a strong signal for climate protection.
Sustainability that inspires
"Our ESG initiatives are not just a contribution to protecting the environment, but a core part of our philosophy," emphasizes Sandharu Ferdinando from Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives. "We are proud to offer our guests an unforgettable vacation experience while preserving the natural beauty of the Maldives."
