Glioma Pipeline Insights

Glioma Pipeline Insights

Glioma Pipeline constitutes 180+ key companies continuously working towards developing 200+ Glioma treatment therapies, analyzes DelveInsight.

Glioma Overview:

Glioma is a type of tumor that forms in the glial cells of the brain or spine, which provide support to the nervous system. These tumors are categorized according to the specific type of glial cell they arise from, such as astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, or ependymal cells. Gliomas can range in aggressiveness, from slow-growing low-grade tumors to fast-growing, malignant high-grade ones. They are the most common form of central nervous system (CNS) tumors originating from glial cells and are highly infiltrative, affecting surrounding brain tissue. Glioblastoma is the most aggressive type, while pilocytic astrocytomas are the least malignant. In the past, gliomas were classified based on their histopathological features, such as diffuse astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, or mixed gliomas/oligoastrocytomas. However, more recent classifications focus on molecular and genetic markers, which offer better prognostic and therapeutic insights for patients. Gliomas are also graded from I to IV based on the degree of cell proliferation, indicated by the mitotic index, and the presence or absence of necrosis. There are three main types of gliomas: astrocytomas (from astrocytes), oligodendrogliomas (from oligodendrocytes), and ependymomas (from ependymal cells). They are further classified into low-grade (I and II) and high-grade (III and IV) tumors based on their cell characteristics, mitotic activity, and molecular markers.
