Yes! Golfs forged Wedges

Yes! Golfs forged Wedges

Has the undisputed world leader in golf groove technology got the yips? What else could explain the sight of the world-renowned Yes! logo on a wedge?
It’s not a forgery or a trick of the light. February has seen the first consignment of Yes! Wedges land in the UK.

Yes! Golf MD for UK & Ireland Peter Allison comments : “It’s a combination of our increased presence on the Tour and our growing number of Yes! Golf Custom Centres that is helping to bring credible ‘pro golfer technology’ to a growing number of club golfers. It’s what golfers and club pros want, so it makes perfect timing for us to offer a wedge, it just had to be the right product.”

As we might have expected from the company that brought us the most singular innovation in golf in a generation (C-Grooves) the wedges have a little something extra to make them special.

Japanese steel is arguably the beginning and end of a decent club in the first place, and that’s a given with the Yes! Wedges. Spin control is enhanced via precision-milled hairline grooves on the presenting surface between the primary U-shaped grooves on the club face. The increased backspin puts the spin action of the world’s greatest wedge players into the hands of every golfer.

Add to this the longest hosel of any wedge around, with the higher centre of gravity and greater backspin brought about by this detail, and this also makes a real difference.

And even if you do believe that looks are only skin deep, then the glare-resistant black chrome-plate finish rounds off the whole offering with a very pretty face (and bottom!).

Available in 52 and 56 degree versions initially with 58 and 60 to come soon, the wedges feature the Dynamic Gold S200 shaft. The new Yes! Wedges mean that Yes! hasn’t left the greens to the also-rans…It’s just casting the same keen eye from a few yards further out.

“From my experience when I was a County player, most birdies come from 120 yards in,” explains Allison. “You do get the exception but most occur as a combination of a raking drive on a short par 4, a little wedge into the green and you putt-out.

“If you putt to Greens in Regulation you’re looking at 36 putts a round. Shooting a par of 72, that’s 50% of your strokes being made with the putter. Now, consider that for between 5 and 10 shots you’re likely to use your wedge and suddenly, these two sticks can account for 60% of your game. That’s what we’re aiming at … that 60%...or from 120 yards in.”

However… (and this is a big but) the man from Yes! is at pains to point out two things.

One, there are no C-Grooves on anything other than Yes! Putters – never has been, never will be.

Two, Yes! Golf UK has no desire whatever to provide a full set of clubs. This is not the first step to being just another club manufacturer.

“We’re now regarded as the King of the Greens in terms of putter brand,” argues Pete Allison. “The C-Grooves, the Harold Swash methodology, the training aids, the value-added products, the long-term relationship with Yes! customers, they’re all components of our success.

“The idea of having another organization of unknown pedigree stake a claim so close to ours is just not right. It lets down our player customers. It lets down our distributor network. And it lets down all our future expectations. The Yes! Wedge is just the perfect addition to the family.”

Do Plane Crashes Happen in Threes? - Sometimes, Yes
March 3, 2009 - Do plane crashes happen in three? It may seem like a superstitious belief and not at all scientific, but AirSafe.com creator and leading aviation safety authority Dr. Todd Curtis says that there may be more than a little bit of truth behind that belief. On 25 February 2009, a Turkish Airlines 737 crashed in Amsterdam, killing nine passengers and crew members. This crash also
