Yu Nansong is a hepatobiliary surgeon at Shaoxing People's Hospital, and is currently a general surgeon in the 29th batch of Chinese medical teams to aid Mali. This is the second time he has participated in the work of medical aid in Africa. In 2017, he arrived here as part of the 25th medical team to aid Mali.

Yu Nansong's first operation in Mali was to remove a warhead from an HIV-positive government soldier who had been wounded in a counterterrorism operation. As a surgeon, he had come into contact with more HIV-positive patients in his previous 18 months in Africa than he had in his more than 20 years of experience in China.

Asked why Yu Nansong chose to aid Africa for the second time? Yu Nansong said that from July 2017 to January 2019, he spent 548 days and nights in Mali and already has feelings for Mali. And his teammates and leaders of the medical team, his colleagues at the Mali hospital and the patients he served all gave very positive comments about his last work in Africa, but Yu Nansong always felt that there was still a lot to be done, and there were some things that could be done better. Therefore, in 2023, Yu Nansong will sign up again to aid Africa.
