SHOE DAY 08

SHOE DAY 08

Get your shoes out of the closet because the world's leading lesbian online community – shoe.org - celebrates it's 5th “International SHOE Day” on March 4th 2008.

On that day, lesbians from all over the world will hang their shoes outside the window to show their lesbian pride and promote lesbian visibility.

The “International SHOE Day“ idea was born from the basic need, almost every lesbian has experienced in their lifetime: To know, that you are not the only one. Not all lesbians have a fully functioning gaydar and for many women it can get very lonely. Most probably have just one simple wish: That all lesbians woke up with green hair! Just for one day.

So the 140'000 member strong SHOE community took this idea one step further and decided, to create a new and fun way to promote lesbian visibility.
So when the the creators of the SHOE Community, Sunci Nikolic and Fab Syz launched the very first “International SHOE Day” back in March 2004, it was an instant success!

Hundreds of SHOE Members hung their shoes outside their window to celebrate this day. Photos were sent in from every corner of the globe. From the USA, Canada, UK, Germany but also from as far away places such as India, Kyrgyzstan, Estonia, South Korea, Czech Republic – places, you don’t normally hear of lesbians.

These photos were then proudly displayed on www.shoe.org. For a whole day, the lesbian community united and showed pride, simply by hanging their shoes outside their window. Without fear for those, who haven’t come out to their friends and family yet. As those women could participate in this fun without facing confrontation or prejudice, as noone else would know what they were doing!

This is an annual event. The next “International SHOE Day” will be held on 4 March 2008. Women everywhere are encouraged to participate in this fun idea to show lesbian visibility. Get your shoes out the closet!

Girls, get ready to polish your SHOEs! You don’t want to miss this!
