Hong Kong Maritime Week 2024 Kicks Off, Highlighting Hong Kong's

Hong Kong, 18 November 2024 - The highly anticipated Hong Kong Maritime Week 2024 (HKMW 2024) officially launched today, bringing together distinguished leaders from the maritime and port industries both locally and internationally. This annual event, a cornerstone of Hong Kong's maritime calendar, aims to bolster the city's position as a premier international maritime centre.

Under the theme "Navigating to a Greener Future", HKMW 2024 will showcase "Propel Hong Kong" to sustainable shipping practices while reinforcing its status as a world-leading maritime hub. The week-long event will feature a series of high-level conferences, seminars, and industry activities that spotlight key topics ranging from green shipping to maritime law and arbitration.

International Maritime Events in Full Swing

Kicking off the week's agenda, the Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit, organised by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), took place this morning. ICS Chairman Emanuele Grimaldi opened the summit with a keynote speech, setting the tone for discussions on the evolving global maritime landscape. Later in the week, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will host a seminar on 22 November titled "From Waste to Wealth: Unlocking Investment Opportunities in Ship Recycling", offering insights into sustainable ship recycling practices and investment opportunities.

Signature Events and Highlights

Following the opening ceremony, the prestigious Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference kicked off immediately, with a focus on "Shaping the Future of Supply Chains: Resilience and Sustainability" This two-day event will see experts from across the globe discuss the future of logistics and maritime operations in an increasingly complex and sustainable world.

Simultaneously, the World Maritime Merchants Forum also commenced, exploring the theme "Navigating the Cycles", which delves into market cycles and their impact on global trade. Adding further excitement, the vessel "Xin Hong Zhuan" made its first-ever visit to Hong Kong and will be stationed at Harbour City throughout the week until 23 November.

A Week Packed with Over 50 Activities

HKMW 2024 boasts a robust lineup of over 50 events, organised by local, mainland, and international maritime bodies. This year, the introduction of the new thematic focus "Belt and Road Development" will be a key highlight, alongside established themes such as Maritime Insurance, Maritime Law and Arbitration, Ship Finance, Talent Development, Education and Careers, Greater Bay Area Development, Green Shipping, Maritime Technology, Ship Management, and General Shipping and Maritime topics.

About Hong Kong Maritime Week

Now in its eighth edition, Hong Kong Maritime Week is organised by the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMPB), with co-organisers including the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. The event is further supported by partners such as the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Invest Hong Kong.
