Greenwich 3rd Grader Publishes Christmas Comic Book

Nine-year-old Benicio, a 3rd-grade student at Whitby School in Greenwich, CT, has published his own comic book, The Christmas Night. Following the success of his recent comic, The Halloween Night, the story follows Fyigor, a snowman who comes to life, as he goes on an adventure to the North Pole. Benicio's book, one of two in the series published by the "Fyigor Works" website, intends to entertain readers and inform young people about Christmas.

Says Benicio, "If there were to be a moral to the story, it would probably be when someone needs help, you should help them. Even people that normally don't need help, like how Fyigor helps Santa." In the 36-page story, Benicio's characters go on adventures, help Santa deliver presents, and celebrate Christmas traditions. His mom Cristina Aguiar Chiavegatti says "I was a bit surprised for the main character to be a snowman, because usually he loves Halloween . I'm excited to see how the snowman will survive the summer, because Bencio said his next comic will take place during the 4th of July!"

Benicio originally drew the story in 2023, then edited The Christmas Night using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign in November and December of 2024. For legibility, Benicio created a font based on his own handwriting, through Calligraphr.com. The Christmas Night is now available for purchase at Amazon.com, along with his other title The Halloween Night. Benicio plans to bring several copies with him to Brazil later this month, and hopes to translate the stories into Portuguese for his relatives.
