Angelica Solutions warns airports are collision hotspots, with twice the national average collision risk around major UK airports

As airports prepare for a travel surge in December with the busiest days for airport travel predicted to be from (Friday) 20 to (Sunday) 22 December with both Christmas Day and the start of Hanukkah coinciding on the same date this year, Angelica Solutions warns motorists and other road users to be extra vigilant on the roads this festive season.

Analysis by Angelica Solutions shows roads surrounding major airports are twice as risky as the national average. This risk amplifies the usual stress of festive travel and costs, particularly for those heading home for the holidays or embarking on a Christmas getaway.

There are about 1.7 injury-causing collisions per 1,000 people annually. However, individuals in proximity to major airports face double that risk. With Heathrow Airport leading the list of collision hotspots, the likelihood of collision escalates to 4.2 injury-causing incidents per 1,000 people each year, equating to 2.4 times the national average risk.

1. Heathrow Airport: 4.2 collisions per 1,000 people (2.4 times the national risk)
2. London Stansted: 3.8 collisions per 1,000 people (2.2 times)
3. Birmingham: 3.5 collisions per 1,000 people (2.1 times)
4. London Luton: 3.1 collisions per 1,000 people (1.8 times)
5. Bristol: 3.0 collisions per 1,000 people (1.7 times)
6. London Gatwick: 2.5 collisions per 1,000 people (1.5 times)
7. Manchester: 2.0 collisions per 1,000 people (1.2 times)
