Learn How to Mitigate Chemical Risk and Meet Brand Expectations in Textiles and Footwear with SGS’s Hazardous Substance Control Workshops

Press release from: SGS

/ PR Agency: Sugarloaf Marketing
Managing hazardous substances along the textile and leather supply chains is no longer optional. Brands and consumers want to know what chemicals have been used, how they have been managed and any risks mitigated. SGS’s Hazard Substance Control (HSC) Workshops enable industry professionals to mitigate chemical risk and meet brand expectations.

It takes more than 40 types of chemicals to turn cotton from its raw state into the finished product; more than 30 types of chemicals to turn animal hide into a leather belt. How can so many potentially hazardous substances be managed across the many production processes involved?

Watch the video and learn how our HSC Workshop can help: https://youtu.be/FKobEQk8Wdw

SGS recently held a number of HSC Workshops for global retailer H&M, whose Global Environmental Supply Chain Responsible, Miss Sheila Shek, said: “H&M has been working hard to ensure factories in our supply chain have the capability for chemical management. In order to enhance their competence levels, we worked with SGS to run the HSC workshop program at a global level. These workshops focus on key chemical management concepts and tools that can be applied in the production process, which are important and can be practically applied in the daily operation of a supply chain. We believe this workshop is a crucial step for the industry to achieve the goal of zero discharge of hazardous chemicals.”

This comprehensive and practical one day workshop, including a combination of seminars and interactive learning sessions, delivers modular training that is process specific, and covers every stage of the textile and footwear manufacturing process, such as dyeing, printing, washing and finishing, and in the leather tanning process. It introduces attendees to the concept of chemical flow management and how to create a traceability system, as well as how to identify, manage and mitigate risk.
