Global Exports of Plastic Boxes, Cases, and Crates Decline after 5 Years of Growth

According to recently published IndexBox research «World: Packing Cases, Boxes And Similar Packings - Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2020» ( http://www.indexbox.co.uk/store/world-packing-cases-boxes-and-similar-packings-market-report-analysis-and-forecast-to-2020/ ), the global trade in plastic boxes, cases, and crates amounted to 11,263 million USD in 2015, exhibiting strong fluctuations over the period under review. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by a dramatic recovery in 2010, with exports almost reaching their pre-recession peak of 2008. Exports maintained a robust recovery pace until another downturn in 2015. Overall, there was an annual increase of 3.5% from 2007 to 2015.

According to IndexBox estimates, USA reemerged as the leader in the global supplies of plastic boxes, cases, and crates, after briefly giving way to China in 2012 and 2013. In 2015, exports of plastic boxes, cases, and crates from the USA totaled 1,660 million USD, which accounted for a 15% share of global exports. China, Germany, Mexico, and France were the other key global suppliers of plastic boxes, cases, and crates in 2015, with a 33% combined share of global exports.

China (+8.8% per year) and Mexico (+3.5% per year) were the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2015. China strengthened its position in the global export structure, growing its share from 8% in 2007 to 12% in 2015.

On the other hand, USA (11%, based on value terms), Mexico (10%), Germany (7%), France (6%), and the Republic of Korea (5%) were the leading destinations of imports of plastic boxes, cases, and crates in 2015. Imports to the Republic of Korea grew at a rapid pace of +7.3% per year from 2007 to 2015. By contrast, Mexico contracted its imports of plastic boxes, cases, and crates over the same period. The shares of all major importers remained within 1 percentage point of their size in 2007, with the exception of Mexico, which saw its share of global imports decline by -5 percentage points from 2007 to 2015.
